COMBINATION TOILET-BOX.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all'whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. JAMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Toilet-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

One object of my invention is to provide an improved combination toilet device which will be of particular value for use by travelers who wish to carry a number of toilet articles in a compact form; the arrangement of the parts being such that any of the articles is readily accessible.

Another object is to construct my improved device in such manner that it can be easily and cheaply manufactured and will present a device of convenience for the traveler.

These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is a top plan View of my improved devlce,

Referring to the drawings, 6 represents a body portion which may be made of wood or other suitable material providing a com-.

paratively wide part 7 and extension 8; said extension being of such shape as to form a handle. The top of the part 7 has a recess 9 in the bottom of which is positioned a mirror 10, and a lid 11 which is hinged at 12 is adapted when closed to cover and protect the mirror 10; a suitable clasp 13 being provided at a position opposite the hinge 12 in order to hold the lid in its closed position. The body portion 6 is also provided on its top surface with an elongated recess 14 and within the recess is secured a coiled spring,

15 which extends in an upright position as shown in Fig. 2.

A comb 16 is adapted to be positioned within the recess 14; it being necessary to place one end portion of the comb upon the spring 15 to compress the latter in order that the comb will fit within the'recess 14.

A cover 17 is hinged at 18 to the body portion 6 and this cover is adapted to form a closure, when in the position shown in Fig. 1, for the recess 14. Any suitable clasp 19 can be used to hold the cover 17 in a closed position. However, it will be understood that the mere release of the clasp 19 from a position over the cover 17 permits the spring 15 to raise the comb and the comb will push the cover 17 into its open position and the end portion 20 of the comb will be raised to such position that it can be easily grasped by the fingers and removed for the purpose of combing the hair.

The body portion 6 has a cavity 21 therein which extends substantially its full length and said cavity is closed with exception of an opening 22. A plate 23, which forms a part of the body portion 6, provides a partial closure for the cavity 21 and a brush 24 has its head 25 secured to the under surface of the body portion. The plate 23 is beveled as shown at 25* ata position over a part 26 of the head 25 of the brush 24. A removable panel 27 is used for closing the opening 22 and this panel has a part 28 adapted to be inserted between the beveled surface 25 and the adjacent part 26 of the brush head 25. The opening 22 includes a ledge 29 at a position remote from the beveled portion 25 of the plate and the panel 27 is adapted to engage said ledge so that a clasp 30 will serve to hold in place the end of the panel opposite the portion which fits between the beveled portion 25 and the portion 26 of the brush head 25. Thus it is necessary, in order to close the opening 22, to insert one end of the panel in between the part 26 of the brush head and the beveled surface 25 of the plate 23, after which the panel can be pushed into engagement with its ledge 29 and the clasp 30 can be turned in position as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

A spring clip 31 is secured to the upper part of the body portion 6 and this clip may be used to upport a shaving brush 32. In order to protect the bristles of the brush 24, I preferably provide a casing; 33 which may be made of sheet metal blocked in form so as to be fitted snugly against the outer edge surface of the brush head 25 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Thus, when it is necessary to use the brush, the casing 33 can be removed and the device may be used as a brush by grasping the handle 8.

The cavity 21 can be used for various purposes such for example as for holding a razor, finger nail file or other elongated article necessary as toilet articles and the same can be conveniently and quickly used and as the person completes the use of each article, the article can be placed within its proper recess or cavity and in this manner the articles will not become lost nor can they be used by other persons; thus privacy is secured and persons can keep their own toilet articles for their own use even though riding in railroad trains or other public conveyances.

While I have described my improved device as being particularly adapted for use by travelers, it will of course be understood "that the same presents many advantages for use by person who desire to keep their toilet articles in a compact form.

While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will beunderstood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations a fairly come, Within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A toilet device of the character described including a body portion providing a cavity and having a bottom plate forming a partial closure for said cavity, said body portion having a part extended beyond said plate and providing a handle; a brush having a head secured to said plate, a part of the head of the brush projecting beyond one end of the plate, said end of the plate being beveled inwardly, said cavity having an opening extending from said end of the plate to a position stopping short of the outer end of the handle, said end of the plate being undercut; and a strip for closing said opening and having a part adapted to be projected in between the head of the brush and said end of the plate; substantially as described;

A toilet device of the character de scribed including a body portion having an elongated recess in one surface thereof; a cover Inovably'secured to said body portion for covering said recess, said recess being adapted to hold an article; and a spring within said recess adapted to press laterally on aid article at aposition nearer one end than the other to push said article against said cover whereby when the cover is opened the article will be pushed laterally in an inclined manner out of said recess; substantially as described.
