UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I WILLIAM F. MCMANUS, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA.
GAME.
I Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 20,1921.
Application filed October 8, 1920. Serial No. 415,540.
' and which may be played by any number of persons, the several players being provided with tokens which will be called men in the parlance of the game and which are to be moved over a predetermined path at intervals of such length as may be determined by a chance device. A game apparatus embodying my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which shows a plan view of a game board having paths for the movement of the men defined thereon.
The game board 1 may be of any convenient or preferred material and will preferably be rectangular in form, as shown. Upon the board is mounted a spinning finger 2 which is pivotally attached to the board and has its head 3 arranged to move over a circular indicator 4 which is divided into spaces having numerals displayed therein; These numerals are arranged in irregular order and extend from 1 to 5. The game board also bears upon its upper face, in one corner, a circle 5 or other mark indicating a starting station and within the said circle or-other defining mark is displayed the word Start. Extending over the game board from the said starting station are similar smaller stations 6, defined in'the present instance by circles, extending in an irregular path overthe board to a winning station 7 which station maybe a design of any pleasing eifect representing a reward for eflorts applied in proper direction. These several stations 6 are numbered consecutively and may be, of course, of any desired number. The station numbered 1 is that immediately adjacent the starting station and the station adjacent the winning station 7 in the illustrated embodiment of the invention, is numbered 44. Some of the stations 6 have displayed thereon legends indicative of. obstacles to be overcome or rewards given the player whose man has, in its travel over the defined path, been brought to restupon the said legend bearing stations.
One of these stations is shown at 8 as being marked One extra spin and the player Whose man is brought torest upon said station is entitled to another turn and may move his man immediately a number of spacesdetermined by the spinning finger in an obvious manner. At 9 is shown a station WhlCl'lrGIltltlBS the player to two extra.
spins, while the player whose man is brought to rest uponthe station 10 must return said man to the station No. 4, as indicated I by the legends on said station 10. Other movements of the men are determined by the legends upon other stations as is obvious from the drawing and from what has been said. It will be readily noted that the path defined by the stations 6 extends back and forth across the board from the start- 7 ing station to the winning station. Defining short cuts between successive bends or branches of the path defined by the stations 6, are other stations 11 which connect adjacent turns or branches of the main path but these stations 11 lead into a final station 12 which is a losing station and the player whose man is forced into said station cannot win the game. The stations which are located at the junctions of the paths defined by the stations 6 and the stations 11 are printed or displayed in some color darker than that used for the back: ground of the game board and for the other stations so that they will contrast sharply with the remainder of the game board surface and mark danger points to be avoided.
Some of the stations 11 are provided with r path at a more distant point.
:The persons participating in the game will be provided with tokens or markers of any desired or preferred character which, asv previously stated, will be called men. The order'in which the players will participate is determined by lot in any convenient or agreed manner and the player who is first to start will place his man upon the starting station and then spin the finger 2. The player will then advance his man over as many of the stations 6 as will correspond to that number upon the indicator 4 over which the head 3 of the spinner comes to rest, as, for instance,'if the head 3 should come to rest over the numeral 3 the player will advance his" man over three stations and will leave it upon the third station.
The other players will in their respective turns spin the finger and advance their re-' spective men in the described manner and the player who is first to carry a man into the wlnning station wins the game. Should a man be brought to rest upon one of those stations which forms a junction with the I dark path or the path defined by the stations 11, such man in the next turn of the player to whom it belongs must travel over the dark path and will be confined to said path unless some subsequent turn of the player should land the man upon one of the stations 11-bearing a legend which, when law cost so as to produce an attractive game board which will be the source of much innocent entertainment and which may be used to impress upon the players and especially young children the desirability of avoiding evil habits and companions.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A game board over which tokens are'to be moved at chance-determined intervals and having displayed thereon a connected series of stations defining a main path over which the tokens are to be moved, and a secondconnected series of stations defining a shorter path intersecting and extending across the path defined by the first-mentioned stations. H
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
