Description
R. w. ERDLE. SELF LUMINOUS MARKER FOR WALL SWITCHES AND LIKE OBJECTS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 25, 1918.
Patnted Sept. 6,1921.
4 La s H 6 3 J a 7 5 m W f m y 5 m UNITED STATES REINER W. ERDLE, OI WEEHAWKE'N, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF COLORADO PATENT OFFICE. 1
com) LIGHT SELF-LUMIN'OUS MARKER I'OR WALL-SWITCHES AND LIKE OBJECTS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REINER W. ERDLE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, who have declared my intention of becoming a citizen of the United States, and now residing in Weehawken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have conceived certain new and useful Inventions Embodied in the Self-Luminous Markers for Wall- Switches and like Objects, set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
This invention is a self-luminous marker for electric wall-switches and like objects, to indicate their exact location in the dark. In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a mid-sectional elevation of one adaptation of the invention to that familiar type of wall switch placed flush in the wall and actuated by two opposing push buttons; and
Fig. is a plan view of the device of The flush-plate 4 of the wall switch is secured by the usual screws such as 5 threaded into the main body 3 of the switch and counter-sunk in the flush-plate.
To apply the invention to such a wallswitch, one of the plate-holdingsorews 5 is removed, and then replaced with the conical nipple 7 'of the circular metal clamping shell 6' bound between thescrew head and the counter-sunk surface of the flush-plate. This clamping shell 6 has a flat surface surrounding its conical nipple, whlch flat surface fits close against the flush-plate, and the circumference of the shell is formed into an outwardly curved rim 8, of slightly less diameter than the circular mouth of-the metal escutcheon shell 14 which snaps over it and is retained thereon-by the several indentures 9 formed in the c lindrical surface of the escutcheon shell. he outer end of the escutcheon shell curves inward and terminates in the margin of the circular window 15 which displays the self-luminous Specification of Letters Patent, Pate t d S t 6 1921' Application filed m 25,
1918. Serial No. 236,556.
paste or other suitable self-luminous material 12 applied in the inset recess 11 of a fiber d1sk 10 covered by a protecting transparent disk 13 such as celluloid, the fiber and transparent disks being together clamped between the rims of the clamping shell and the escutcheon shell.
The invention is not limited to the specific form shown, but includes all forms within the definitions of the following claims:
1. In combination in a luminous marker, a separable clamping shell having a seat thereon for the reception of means forsecuring it to an object to be marked, an independent disk carrying thereon a luminous'material,
said disk fitting on said shell, a translucent covering over said luminous material and a cap fitting over said cover, disk. and shell, thereby securing the parts to ether, the cap having an opening therein t rough which the luminous material is visible.
2. In combination in a luminous marker, a separable clamping shell having a seat thereon for the reception of means for securing it to an object to be marked, luminous material in a suitable holder oversaid shell and a translucent facing confining said luminous material therein, a cap over said shell and.
retaining t e same in contact against the carrier, the outer edge of said ca being bent downwardly to fit substantially ush against the object to be marked.
In testimony whereof, I have affixed my 7 signature to this specification.
EI-NER WQEBDLE.
