To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, JOBBYBELPEDIO, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at- Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Talking-Machines, of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to improvements in talking machines and has for its principal object to provide a combination brake and disk elevator which is arranged in such a manner that when the tone arm is moved to a predetermined position, the record tablet or disk will be elevated above the top of the turn table to permit the ready removal of the same.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a lever adapted to be attachedto the tone arm in such a position that when the tone arm is moved to the extreme right, the brake and elevating mechanism will be automatically operated.
With the above and other objects in view, which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of a talking machine illustrating the elevating means on the turn table.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates the motor board of a talking machine, provided with the usual central spindle 11, on which the turn table 12, is mounted. This turn table is provided with a central depressed portion 13 which is perforated as at 14 to receive the disk elevating studs 15, which are attachedat their lower ends to the elevating ring 16. Surrounding each of the studs between the under side of the turn table and the upper side of the ring 16 is a fiber silencing washer 17, in order to reduce any noise created by the movement of the parts to a minimum.
Formed at spaced intervals in the motor board 10 is an annular series of openings 18 for a purpose to be more fully hereinafter described. A circular fiber cushion 19 is arranged on the upper side of the top 10 in alinement with the openings 18 and a ring 20 normally rests upon the cushion in the manner illustrated in the drawings. The ring 20 hereafter to be known as the elevating ring is provided at spaced intervals with arms 21 which are preferably struck up therefrom and bent at an angle with relation to the under side to provide cam surfaces by means of which the ring is raised when the same is rotated. Stops 22 are formed at the free ends of these arms in order to limit the rotation of the ring. In order that the ring 20 may be elevated with ease and to supplement the arms 21 for elevating the ring 20 for returning said ring to its normal position of repose, small links 20 are provided. These links have connection to the edge of the ring 20 as at 20 with the motor board 10 as at 10". Any number of these link connections may be made between the ring 20 and the motor board 10. In order to provide a means for moving the ring, a radially extending arm 23 is formed on the periphery thereof and is adapted to be engaged by the stop arm which will be more fully hereinafter described. As illustrated in Fig. 4, the arms 21 project into the openings 18 when the ring rests on the cushion 19 and it will be evident that a slight turn of the ring in a clockwise direction, will cause the cam surfaces to engage one end wall of each slot, thereby elevating the ring so that the top side thereof carrying the cushion 24 will engage the under side of the ring 16, and force the same upwardly thereby raising the studs 15and causing the disk record tablet to be moved clear of the table.
In order to rotate the ring 20, a stop arm 25 is secured to the tone arm of the talking machine and is provided at its outer end with a ring engaging finger 26 which when the tone arm is swung to the extreme right, engages the lever 28, and actuates the record disk elevating mechanism. Simultaneously with the movement of the record elevating mechanism to raised position, the tongue 27 carried by the arm 25 engages beneath the latch member 28 or the brake lever 29, there by causing the upper end of said lever to move the fiber plug30 into contact with the inner side of the flange of the turn table 20 thereby acting to retard the movement of said table. Likewise when the tone arm is moved to the left -for the playing of a new record disk, the turn table is immediately freed to revolve, since the spring 31 will have moved the fiber plug carried by the lever 29 out of engagement with the turn table and the ring 20 will have been moved downwardly out of engagement with the ring 16, the ring 20 gravitating of its own Weight.
While in the foregoing, there has been shownand described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that certain minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit'and scope of the invention as claimed.

4. In a device of the class described, a turn table adapted to support a record tablet, a tone arm, elevating studs operable through the turn table, ring connecting the lower ends of the studs and means controlled by the tone arm torengaging the ring to elevate the studs.
5. A device of the character'described in.- cluding a motor board, a turn table adapted to support a record tablet, a tone arm, means actuated by the movement of the tone arm to raise the tablet clear of the turntable, said means including a ring having operative connection with said motor board to allow the ring to have vertical movement and turning movement in two directions.
