UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS E. MURRAY, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CIRCULATION-TUBE FOR WATER-TUBE STEAM-BGILERS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 21, 1921.
Application led February 4, 1920. Serial No. 356,347.
water tube steam boilers, having on its exterior a plurality of projections distributed at intervals over the length of lsaid tube, the said projections being free except where attached to the tube and extending into the fire space when the tube is in place inthe boiler. The object of the invention is to increase the heat conducting area of the tube.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure l is a perspective View of my water tube.
Fig. 2 shows one flanged ring separately and in perspective.- Fig. 3 is a longitudinal diametra-l section Abf my tube.
' Fig. 4 shows separately and in perspective y:one of the units which make up the complete flanged ring of Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate like A is the tube, upon which I place as many rings B, having double flanges C, D, as may be desired. Each ring with its anges is formed of a number of curved sections united by electrical welding at their ends. In the drawing,I I show each ring made'up of four sections E, F, G, H,which are eX- actly alike and interchangeable, and may be struck up from the same dies. The rings are attached to the tube, preferably by electrical welding.
The object of the device is to increase the heating surface of the tube. Said flanges, which project into the tire space, 'being directly heated by the surrounding gases, conduct said heat to the tube and so increase the capacity of a tube of. given length for heating the water circulating therein. The flanges may be of any desired radial width, depending upon the amount of desired heating( capacity.
claim:
l. A circulation tube for water tube steam boilers, havin on its periphery a plurality of rings; eac ring having at both of its edges an outwardly turned flange formed by striking up the metal of the ring.
2. A circulation tube for water tube steam boilers, having on. its periphery a plurality of double fianged rings; the said rings being formed in arc-shaped sections electrically welded together at their ends.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS E. MURRAY.
