Be it known that I, JOHN S. BRENNAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, inthe county of Milwaukee and State of WVisconsin, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Valves for Oil-Stove Reservoirs; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in valves, more particularly of that type adapted for controlling the flow of fuel liquid from the supply receptacle of oil stoves, such receptacles being invertible over an auxiliary constant level receptacle wherein the level is determined by the bottom plane of the discharge neck of the main receptacle, which projects thereinto, the valve being opened by engagement ofits stem with the bottom of the auxiliary recepl/Vith the above and other objects and advantages in View, which will be apparent asthe description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more particularly de scribed and defined by the appended claims.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, 5 designates the usual dispensing or main supply receptacle, which is inverted over the panshaped auxiliary receptacle 6, the neck 7 of the main Specification of Letters Patent.

whereby the bottom plane of the neck 7 determines the liquid level supply in the receptacle 6, which has the. usual pipe 8 jextending therefrom for supplying to the} burners of the stove. '4 My improved valve structure. includes a cap member which-forms a portion ofthe valve casing, said cap member comprising'a cylindrical wall 9 having threads for enreceptacle neck 7, theend of the cap being centrally apertured to provide anoutlet port, the cap material surrounding said aperture being inclined inwardly therefrom to form a gagement on the correspondingly threaded l frusto-conical valve seat 1 0 which is. thus p offset inwardly of the plane of thecap end. A substantially dome-shaped. inner [valve casing section 11 is secured to an inn'er face of the ca fend preferably by tabs 12 pas'sed I through the cap end. and clenchedlonqits outer surface, this valve casing member being provided with an inlet port13, in its top, and alsowitha port 14 at one side. The valve proper is preferablyiformed fromfa single piece of metal drawn toprovide a cylindricalhollow fstem 15. closed at one endand which'has' its other end flared to provide a frusto-conical valve head portion 16 en-,
gageable againstthe valve seatdlO, the stem extending loosely through the outlet port of thecasing. An expansile coil spring 17 is disposed in the stem and casing, one end of the spring bearing against the closed end of the stem while the other end of the spring bears against the top of the casing'section 11 which is shaped to form a proper seat for the spring 10.
I have thus provided an exceedingly simple, eflicient and durable valve structure which may be most economically manufactured and assembled, all of the casing parts comprising simple stamped or drawn mem-- bers. In assembling the device, the sleeve the cap, the spring 17 is .dropped into the sleeve and the inner dome-shaped casing section 11 is then applied, itstabs'being projected through the end of the cap member and clenched whereby the entire device is v ,15 is passed through the outlet openingof ios held in assembled relation, the valve being normally urged outwardly to closing posie tion by the spring, and being released by,
abutment of the endof thestem '15 with the auxiliary receptacle 6 when the main receptacle is inverted thereover.
llVhile I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be appreciated that Various changes and modifications of structure may be employed 5 to meetdifiering conditions of use and manufacture', without departing in any manner w from the scope of-the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A valve structure of the class described comprising a cylindrical casing member adapted to form a receptacle closure member and provided at one end with an annular'valve seat, a cup shaped casing member having its open end secured to the first casing member and surrounding said seat, a
tubular valve stem extended through the valve seat and having its outer end closed, a valve head enlargement on the inner end of the stem engageable against said seat, and an expansile coil spring disposed in the stem, the coils of the spring being of substantially the same diameter as the inside of said tubular stem, and said spring acting between the outer end of said tubular stem and the bottom of said cup shaped casing memher for urging said valve head enlargement against the seat.
,2. A valve structure of the class described comprising a cap member havingla the stem engageable against said seat, an
expansile coil spring disposed in said tubular valve stem, and acting between the end of said valve stem and the inner portion of said cap member, the coils of the spring bea ing of substantially the same diameter as gag'ement on the neck of a receptacle and provided with an outlet aperture in its end, the material of said cap end being inclined inwardly from said aperture to form a frustoconical valve seat, and then extended outwardly to the plane of the cap end to form an annular shoulder, a tubular valve stem extended through the outlet aperture and having its outer end closed, a valve head enlargement-on the inner end of the stem engageable against said valve seat, a cupshaped casing member having its mouth portion disposed about said shoulder,'tabs on the mouth portion of said casing member passed through the end of the cap member, and an expansile spring disposed'in the valve stem and easing member for urging said valve head enlargement against the seat.
