UNlTED OFHQE.
MOP-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 19, 1921.
Application filed October 11, 1920. Serial No. 415,968.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRED RoUNDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention to provide a mop holder so arranged as to provide means for readily opening the same in order to quickly remove or insert a mopand also so constructed as to form adjustable clamping means for clamping a mop in the holder.
The invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a mop and mop holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the mop holder showing the same in open position.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The mop holder comprises a usual socket 1 adapted to receive a handle 2 and having a transversely extending bar 3 at the end of said socket member. Strengthening webs 4c may extend across the angles between the bar 3 and the socket member 1, and in practice the socket, transverse bar, and strengthening webs are, preferably, cast as an integral structure.
The lower surface of bar 3 is provided with a groove 5 extending the length of the same and adapted to receive a clamping rod 6. The ends of bar 3 are, preferably formed as longitudinally extending lugs 7 which are, preferably, positioned below the plane of groove 5 in order that rod 6, when received in said groove, will have its ends posit ironed adjacent the surfaces of the lugs Bolts 8 are pivoted in the respective ends of rod 6 and are adapted to be received through openings 9 provided in said lugs. Nuts 10 shown as wing nuts are adapted to be received upon the ends of the bolts for detachably connecting the rod 6 to the bar 3. A coil spring 11 is received upon one of the bolts 8 and is interposed between lug 7 and the wing nut threaded upon the bolt.
In practice the end of rod 6 carrying spring 11 is connected to bar 3 by means of 1ts nut 10, and therod is then swung upon the pivotal connection provided at this end of the rod by the pivotal mounting of the.
bolt 8. A mop may then be readily inserted between the rod 6 and bar 3 and the bolt 8 at the swinging end of the rod then positioned in its opening 9, and the nut 10 threaded upon said bolt for adjustably drawing the rod toward the bar 3. The bar 6 may be drawn toward bar 3 until received in groove 5 by tightening nuts 10 and the mop holder is thus adapted to form an adjustable clamping engagement for a mop. It will be understood that spring 11 will permit sufficient yield at the pivot end of bar 6 to permit of the latter swinging upon its pivot so as to open the mop holder and thus provide for the ready removal and insertion of a mop.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. A mop holder comprising a bar having a rod pivoted to one end thereof with the swinging end of said rod provided with means for connecting the same to the other end of said bar to form a clamp, and means for yieldably drawing the pivoted end of said rod to said bar.
2. A mop holder comprising a bar, a rod having bolts pivoted to its respective ends and adapted to be received through the respective ends of said bar, nuts for said bolts,
and a spring interposed between one of said nuts and the end of said bar.
3. A mop holder comprising a bar having a groove in one surface, end lugs upon said bar below the plane of said grooved surface, a rod adapted to be received in said groove and having bolts pivoted to its respective ends adapted to be received through the respective lugs, nuts for said bolts, and a spring interposed between one of said nuts and the end lug.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
