Be it known that 1, MAX E. SoHnNKE, a citizen of the German Republic, residing at Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insect- Exterminators, or" which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to insect exterminators and consists in the novel construction oi an exterminator comprising a base, a pad treated with a suitable insecticidal substance and loosely resting thereon and a bell or dome removably attachedto the base and provided with passages for 111 sects, and which is adapted to shield the pad and securely hold the same in position.
The object of my invention is to provide a construction which will be simple, ornamental and sanitary.
In the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a top plan View of the exterminator; Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section on line 83 of big. 1.
Referring to the drawing more specificall 1O denotes a base, preferably in form of disk of metal or other suitable material which on its circumference is provided with a plurality of concentric extensions curved upwardly and inwardly to form circularly curved tubular sockets 10. A pad 11 of cardboard paper or other suitable material previously treated with an insecticidal sub stance and shaped in the form of a disk substantially of the size of the base 1.0 is loosely supported on the latter. A hell or dome 12 serving to shield said pad is adapted to fit around said base and to be removably attached thereto. The same is provided on the lower part of its circumference with a plurality of recesses 12 which at their lower edges are open and in width equal to the distance between two adjoining sockets. At points located between two adjoining recesses the bell is provided with circularly curved horizontally projecting marginal flanges 12 adapted to engage the tubular sockets 10 of the base and thereby hold the dome in position. In order to facilitate the positioning of the flanges 12* into the sockets 10 the distance between two adjoining tubular sockets is somewhat larger than the length of the sockets 10 or flanges 12' so that to fasten the dome it may be so placed that its flanges 12 will fit in the spaces between adjoining sockets and on turning the dome around its vertical axis will enter said sockets. By such engagement the pad 11 becomes secured to the base, the samev being clamped between the upper face oi the base and the flanges 12* of the dome.
To enable the manufacture of such trans of very thin sheet metal with suiiicient resistance against bending the bell or dome is preferably provided with corrugations 12 radlatmg from the top. The insecticidal substance with which the pad is treated will be effective when the pad is moist. To facilitate the moistening of the pad without its removal from the base, the dome in its top is provided with an opening 12 through which water or other suitable fluid may be poured onto the pad.
Tn use the insects attracted by the smell of the treated pad will enter through the passages 12 onto the pad which wilT cause their extermination. The dome will shield the pad and conceal the insects accumulated thereon.
W hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An insect exterminator, comprising a disk shaped base formed with marginal sockets, a pad treated with an insecticidal substance loosely borne on said base and a bell or dome formed with passages and having fiaiges ad pted to removably engage said sockets and clamp said pad in position.
2. An insect exterminator comprising a disk shaped base formed with marginal sockets, a pad treated with an insecticidal substance loosely borne on said base, a bell or dome formed with passages for the insects, a central charge opening, and marginal flanges between adjoining passages adapted to removably engage said sockets and clamp said pad in position.
