This invention relates to a burner adapted tor the use ci' two di nilar gases burned simultaneously as en'iployed in projection hintern work. y
The object or the invention is the provision of a structure in a burner of the class named by which a necessary thorough mixture of the gases, oxygen and acetylene, can be used withbut so called cback-iiring and popping peculiar to such gases in lantern and other work.
The disadvantage in most burners for the above purpose, especially when combining such gases as oxygen and acetylene gases, is that thorough mixing of these gases does not lproperly take place which, together With the 'tact that the structures do not prevent backiring and popping, the light produced is unsteady and for that reason very unsatistactory "for projection purposes and particularly in motion picture work.
The device of this application has been designed to bring about the thorough mixture oif the gases and to Wholly prevent the disadvantages named.
To the end that the invention may be understood the accompanying drawing is provided, showing the preferred structures tor accomplishing the purpose intended, though it is to be understood that changes may be made that may be considered the equivalent of the structures shou'nrand that will fairly fall Within the scope of the appended claim.

is a tube inserted in the recess 23 of said member 24, one of Whose extremities terminates in the bottoni of said bore, at its other end closing the open end of the recess in a gas-tight manner and preferably7 having a threaded boss 26. 27 is. a nipple having threaded engagement with the said boss 26 and provided with a passage 2S. 29 is a second nipple having threaded engagement with the iirst. This said nipple 29 forms the burner from which the gases are projected upon the lime cylinder l() through a et oriiice 3G.
It is observed that the nipple 27 has a recess 3l which lies between the bore of the tube 25 and the reduced passage 28. It is further observed that the nipple 29 has the recess 32. The burner thus constructed is particularly adapted for use with oxygen and acetylene, as already stated, usually furnished in separate tanks under pressure, these gases requiring a structure in a burner hy means of which they will be very thor- Cdl oughly mixed before being permitted to issue at the jet orice 30.

in Fig. 2 it is observed that the passages 2l and 22 are somewhat removed from the bottom oi the recess 24%, and that the tube 25 lies close to the bottom oi the latter beyond said passages whereby an intermingling or mixture oit the two gases is initially accomplished before they enter the said tube 25.

The gases moving out ot the bore of the tube enter the smaller passage or bore 28 and7 in additioin are compelled to pass through the relatively larger recess 31 by which method 'they are thoroughly intermingled before reaching. the jet orifice. Again. by being caused to increase in velocity by their passage from the nipple 27 into the large recess 32 of the nipple 29 they must again be mixed betere issuing through the jet orifice.
lt is not the wish to be coniined to the use of the two nipples necessarily, but rather to provide any structure wherein the described relation of recesses and passages is present to obtain the results named.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is*- ln a device of the class described, the combination of a member provided with a bore of uniform diameter throughout closed at one end, and a second member closing the opposite end of said bore having an eXtension of substantially uniform diameter throughout depending into the said bore terminating in spaced relation to the iirst described member at the bottom7 and spaced from the side walls ot the bore creating a substantially uniform annular space of considerable depth between the two niembers there being a pair ot passages through the walls of the iirstmember communicating with ,the said annular space opening directly into the same remote from the bottom of the said bore, there being also a. passage extending longitudinally through the second described meinber communicating with the bottom oit the bore oi' said first member, and a burner tube terminating the opposite end ott the said second member communicating with said bore.
