COMBINATION FOLDING TABLE AND CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patent d De 21 1920 Application filed July 30, 1919. Serial No. 314,234.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CoLLIs Cranes, 'a citizen of the United States, residing 1n the city and county of San Francisco and Stateof California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Foldln Tables and Cabinets, of which the following is One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a table of simple, substantial and practical construction having portions attached thereto which may be folded to form a complete housing or cabinet for thereception of a typewriting machine or the like or unfolded or extended to permit op eration of themachin'e and simultaneously to provide an increased table surface for the reception of paper, envelops, books, etc., and
within convenient reach of the operator.
Another object of the invention is to provide a table of the character described, which will eliminate! the use of expensive typewriter cabinets or desks while at the same time securing all'the advantages thereof by supporting the machine in correct position for use, providing ample table surface and completely covering or inclosing the machine when not in use.-
Another object of the invention is to provide a table which will consume a mihimum of space when folded and which may be readily moved about to any position ilesired,
when required. v
F urther objects will hereinafter appear.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction, combination and arrangement of partsas hereinafter more fully.- described and claimed, -havin'g reference to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table, showing it unfolded.
Fig. 2 is a similar-view, showing the table. folded. ,fBeferring to the drawings in indicates in general, a table supported by legs 2 and provided with a drawer 3 for the detail, A
reception of articles dependent upon the use of a table. Secured to the rear side of the table is a permanent back section 4 and hingedly secured to each endof the table as at 5 is an end section 6. Hingedly secured to each end section, as at 7, is a top or cover section 8 and hingedly secured to the front edge of each end section as at 9, is a front section or door 10.
Slidably mounted in any suitable manner under the table top indicated at 11 is a pair of extendible arms 12 and 13. These arms are provided for the purpose of supporting the sections 6 and 8 when the cabinet is unfolded but may be telescoped or moved under the table top 11 when the cabinet is closed, as shown in Fig. 2.
A table constructed as here shown is simple and substantial in construction and while here described as serving the purpose of a typewriting table, itis obvious that it may be employed for other uses. If employed for typewriting machines, it is ob- V1011S that it may be placed upon the table top 11 and that it may be entirely inclosed when not in use, by raising the end sections 6 together with the cover sections 8 and the front door sections 10. The several sections being swung about their respective hinges,
permits the machine to be entirely'closed' and it also permits the machine to be uncovered for use whenever desired, by merely extending the foldable and hingedly connected sections shown, the sections 6 and 8 being supported when extended as previously'described, by the arms 12 and 13 which may be telescoped or moved under the tabl top when not in use. v V
I have therefore provided a table which eliminates the use of expensive typewriter cabinets and desks while I at the same time obtain all the advantages thereof as a machine may be supported atany convenient. height and within ready reach of the operator, Further, an extended and increased table, surface is provided at each side of the machine where papers, books, etc., may be 4 placed within convenient reach of the operator, and I have at the same time provided a table which may be folded to form a dustproof covering and cabinet for the machine I when not in use, the table when folded cona compact unit which may be readily move -.suming a minimum of space and presenting about whenever desired or required.
While a more or less specific structure and design is here shown, I wish it understood that various changes in the form and proportions'in design may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims; similarly,
that the materials and finish may be such as the experience and judgment of the manufacturer may dictate.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A combination folding table and cabinet comprising a table,-a back section rigidly pair of sliding arms supported by the table,
adapted to support the end'andcover sections when unfolded.
2. A table including a rectangular topmember having supporting legs at the corners and a rigid vertical back, sections hinged to the ends of'the main member, and foldable to form the ends of an inclosing cabinet, other sections hinged to the ends of saidfirst sections, and foldable to form a cabinet top, sections hinged at right angles to the first named vertically foldable end sections, and foldable to meet and inclose the front of the cabinet, said end and top sections, normally extending in a horizontal plane with the table, and bars slidable in guides beneath the main top member, and extensible to support the hinged sections.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
