APPLICATION FILED MAY 9. 1919.

lwumtoz War/5 Jai/wwi UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES J. GALLAHAN, 0F ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
COLLAR-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. GALLA- i-IAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to collar holders more particularly adapted for use in connection with soft collars to prevent the points from unduly spreading, and the object of this invention is to provide an extendible bar whose length may be adjusted for the purpose of accommodating different shapes of collars.
With these and otherobjects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
I11 the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1- is a front view of a collar showing my improved holder applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder enlarged.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the holder. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the holder illustrating the same as applied to a collar, the latter being shown in section.
. Fig. 5- is a perspective view of one of the parts of the holder.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the two parts of the bar both of which are preferably formed of sheet metal, the inner end of each bar being broadened or enlarged at 11, said enlargements are perforated or slotted at 12 sufficiently to permit the other part of the bar to pass there through and slide therein, and each of these enlarged ends is bent off at a slight angle to the plane of its part to such an extent as to permit the other part to pass therethrough bv bending slightly out of its normal plane so that when the parts are interlocked one with the other the spring of the offset portion is just sufficient to create a suitable friction upon the other part to retain the parts in adjusted position.
Neal-the outer end of each part I have attached a post 13 by riveting, soldering or otherwise and on the end of this post I have formed a button-head 14 adapted to pass Specification of Letters Patent. Patented De 21 192() Application filed May 9, 1919.
Serial No. 295,914.
through the button-holes 15 in the collar 16 and so retain the edges of the collar in position.
In some cases it is found of advantage to extend the ends of the bar slightly beyond the button-heads and form teeth 17 in these ends and then turn the same outwardly so as to engage the under side of the collar and bind it firmly against the under side of the button-head thereby firmly retaining the button in the collar and preventing it from moving about in its buttondiole.
By the use of a collar holder of my improved construction the length of the bar may be adjusted to accommodate itself to collars of different styles and the construction of the same is extremely simple and inexpensive and its operation effective.
The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An extension collar holder comprising a fiat bar formed of sheet stock and in two parts, the inner end of each part being oppo sitely offset to stand at a slight angle to the plane of its bar member, the offset portion of each being pierced to provide an eye portion adapted to frictionally engage and grip the opposite bar which extends therethrough and so retain the parts in adjusted position, and a post at the free end of each bar carrying a button-head.
2. An extension collar holder comprising a bar formed of sheet stock in two parts, the inner end of each part being enlarged and bent off at a slight angle to the plane of its part and slotted providing an eye through which the other part frictionally slides, a post at each end of said bar carrying a button-head, and means at the ends of said bar for engaging the collar and binding the same against the under side of said button-head In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
