To all whom it may concern. I
Be it known that I, LOUIS H. Fox, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Covington, in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Candlers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for testing eggs, and pertains especially to a lightreflecting device for candling eggs.
The object of the invention is to prov de an egg candling device of such peculiar shape as to afford improved reflecting surfaces as the inner face of the walls of the device relative to a lamp or electric light within said device.
A further object of the invention is to provide in an egg candler a centrally lighted device having such construction as to form a hexagonal shaped standing casing or light housing, and having an open bottom or base for permitting the device to be set over an ordinary lamp.
A still further object of the invention is to provide the inner face of the front of the candler with a reflecting device located between egg holders and having reflectlng faces inclined from. the source of light to said face for reflecting rays of light laterall f arious other objects, advantages and improved results are attainable in the practical application of the invention as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings forming partof this application Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the candler as in position for candling.

The same reference characters denote the same parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Tn carrying out my invention, I employ, preferably, a single sheet or piece of sheet metal capable of bending as at 1, for forming the casing or housing into hexagonal shape, having a back wall 2 parallel with a front wall 3, inclined side walls 4, and egg holding walls 5 at an angle to the front and side walls. The meeting edges of the sheet front of the casing or housing. The top 8 of the housing is soldered or otherwise secured and has an opening 9 for the insertion of an electric light, and said opening forms a draft for the lamp. The bottom of the various wall corners are slitted so as to be bent outwardly to form supporting flanges 10 adapted for seating the candler on a table or stand as 11, and draft openings 11. The eggholding walls 5 have egg receiving openings 12 provided with a ring gasket 13 as of leather, rubber or other suitable material, and the gaskets are held in position by means of a sheet metal ring 14 attached to the walls 5, so that an egg as 15 may be held in the gaskets for candling. Centrally between the egg receiving openings 12, is secured to the front wall, an angular reflector 16, preferably V-shaped in cross section and having flanges 17 fitting the corners between the front wall and the adjacent walls, with its point or apex projecting centrally toward and standing adjacent to the lamp or other source of light, so that the inclined faces 18 of this device reflect rays of light laterally to the eggs, and thereby increase the capacity of the candler for artificial light reflection.
It will be observed that the position of the V-shaped reflector is such as to diffuse the light at the front of the candler and reflect the light in opposite directions equally upon the eggs at each side of the V-shaped reflector.
Obviously the gaskets may be removed and renewed or replaced by others. The open bottom of the candler affords access thereto for cleaning and polishing the reflecting surfaces, and also affords convenience in placing the candler as desired. The one piece sheet metal affords simple and expeditious means of forming and shaping the body casing or housing, and by slitting the bottom edge, the base flanges are readily bent outwardly, and form shaft openings at each bottom corner of the candler.
I do not wish to be understood as confining my invention to any particular size, nor to any particular light source, but reserve the right to make such changes and variations therein as may come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an egg candler, a vertically standing casing having an open bottom and adapted to house an artificial light, the inner face of the back of the casing forming a light reflecting surface, casing members at an angle to the back and having egg inserting openings, a front casing member parallel with the back and connecting said angular members, and an angular reflector projecting inwardly from the front member between said openings.
2. In an egg candler, a vertically standing casing having an open bottom and adapted to house an artificial light, flanges struck out of'the bottom edge of the casing and forming a seating base having draft slits between the flanges, the inner face of the back of the casing forming a light reflecting surface, the sides of the casing converging forwardly, a front casing member parallel with the back, angular casing members connecting the front member with the side members and having egg inserting openings, and
V-shaped light reflector projecting inwardly from the front member between said openings. v
3. In an egg candler, a casing, the inner face of the rear wall of which forms a light reflector, angular egg-hole members and a member parallel with the back member and forming a contracted front, and a V shaped reflector projecting inwardly from the front centrally between the egg holes, said casing having an open bottom permitting the easing to be seated over a lamp.
