Description

G. J. BEAUDET. COMBINED STOVE LID AND POT LIFTER- APPLICATlON men JAN. 12. 1920.
Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
, J1 I v J5 xv) I y Y wgfl w I wvewt UNITED STATES A 'GEOBGE J. BEAUDET, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
COMBINED STOVE-LID POT LIFTER,
T (ZZZ whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, Gnonon J. BEAUDET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in a Combined Stove-Lid and Pot Lifter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stove lid and pot lifters, and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved stove lid lifter which is so constructed that stove lids can be readily and quickly lifted without strain upon the operators wrist or Without the likelihood of the lid becoming disconnected from the lifter.
Another object of the invention is to proride an improved stove lid lifter embodying an annularly extending handle which is dis posed over the stove lid engaging foot, so that the hand of the operator will be adjacent to the center of the lid so as to reduce the strain upon the. wrist of the user.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved stove lid lifter embodying a handle positioned above the foot for engaging the stove lid having a hook arranged in the shank thereof intermediate the handle and foot for engaging the stove lid for engaging the pot or the like for permitting the easy handling thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a stove lid lifter having an angularly disposed handle positioned above the foot for engaging the stove lid, which is so constructed as to provide a rest for the thumb of the operator, thereby permitting a firm grip to be obtained upon the handle.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an improved stove lid and pot lifter of the above character which is durable and efiicient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the drawing, in which drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved stove lid and pot lifter showing the same in operation.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevation of the handle for the lifter.
Referring to the drawings, in detail,
Specification of Letters Patent.

- wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several. views, the numeral 5 indicates the improved stove lid lifter, which includes the inclined shank 6 having its lower end bent outwardly and downwardly as at 7 and provided with a curved forwardly projecting lid engaging foot 8. The downwardly and forwardly projecting portion7 of the inclined shank 6 directly in rear of the foot 8 is provided with oppositely extending out- I wardly projecting ears 9 formed on the edges of the shank 6 for engaging the upper surface of a stove lid 10. The stove lid 10, which is shown merely to illustrate the use .of the lifter, is of the ordinary or any pre ferred construction and includes the usual recess 11 for the foot 8 of the stovelid lifter and the inwardly extending ears 12 formed on the opposite side walls of the recess. The upper end of the shank is provided with a substantially right angularly disposed the bar 13 and is bent to provide an eye 17, which projects outwardly of the bar 13 and lies in the same plane therewith. The eye 17 is formed relatively large and forms a thumb rest for the hand of the operator when a stove lid or pot is being lifted. The eye 17 also forms a convenient means for hanging the lifter up when not in use.
The shank 6 adjacent to the forwardly and downwardly projecting portion 7 is provided with a hook 18, which is riveted or otherwise secured to the shank as at 19. The hook forms means for engaging the bails of pots to permit the convenient lifting and handling thereof.
From the foregoing description it can be seen that an improved stove lid and pot lifter has been provided of exceptionally simple and durable construction, which permits the easy and convenient lifting of stove lids or pots without strain upon the wrist a hand grip formed on the angle portion, a forwardly projecting thuinh piece ed on the hand grip and extending in same plane therewith.
lifter comprising an inclined shank y projecting handle arranged at uially right angles to the inclined. shank. a hand grip arranged on the handle. and a. thumb receiving eye formed on the J. l x.
hand grip and arranged in the same plane therewith.
3. A lifter comprising an inglined shank, a downwardly and forwardly projecting portion formed on one end of the shank, a forwardly projecting foot formed on the downwardly and forwardly projecting portion, outwardly extending-pars fo med on the foot, a downwardly projecting handle formed on the upper terminal or the inclined shank and extending substantially right angles thereto, a spirally wound hand grip arranged on the handle, the forward end of the hand grip being curved to provide an eye the eye extending in the same plane with the handle and arranged above the foot.
