TAG FOR MILK-BOTTLES.
Specification of Letters Patent;
Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
Application filed August 10, 1917. Serial 1T0. 185,566.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLE O. KoLs'rAo, a citizen of the United States, residin at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and btate of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tags for Milk-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tags which are primaril; upon the neck of bottles whereby to insure the proper delivery of the bottle to the purchaser intended and also whereby to indicate to the distributer the return of the bottle from the purchaser of the contents thereof.
it is the primary object of the invention to provide a bottle attachment in the nature of a tag or label having a flexible element associated therewith whereby the same may be readily arranged upon the neck of the bottle or may be easily removed therefrom. It tion to provide a device of this character which is not only of an extremely simple construction but which may be manufactured at a minimum cost and which will perform the functions for which it is designed accuracy. With the above objects in view the improvement resides in the construction, com bination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing: Figure l is a view of a bottle having my improvement attached to the neck thereof, Fig. 2 is a sectional view approximately on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improvement.
My improvement is necessarily, milk bottles in which the customer primarily, but not chases only the contents of the bottle, the
bottle being owned by the merchant ordistributer, and in which a refund charge is made with the" original purchase and paid when the empty bottle is returned. n a
business of this character it will be apparout that errors may easily arise, as bottles this being especially delivered. in the ordinary manner by drivers of wagons, and therefore it may be cony adapted to be removably secured a still further object of the invendesigned for employment upon not having Written thereon the name ofthe purchaser, the charge against the purchaser is not removed from the distributers books, true when the milk is sidered the primary object of the invention to produce a tag or label having inscribed thereon the value price ofthe milk bottle, the name of the dealer or distributer and a blank space for the name and residence of the purchaser, and to provide such a tag or label with means whereby the same may be readily attached to or removed from the neck of the bottle.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates an ordinary milk bottle, and 2 my improvement which is designed to be removably attached to the neck of the said bottle.
The improvement contemplates the employment of a strip of bendable material 3, such as paste-board or the like, and upon this strip is inscribed the value of the bottle, as indicated by the numeral 4, the name and address of the distributer as indicated by the numeral 5, as well as a blank space in which is written the name and address of the purchaser of the contents of the bottle, as indicated by the numeral 6.
The strip 3 preferably comprises a rectangular member and is provided, at its center with two spaced openings 8-8 through which is passed one of the leads or strands of a continuous elastic band 9. The edges of the strip 3 are portions or shoulders 10, adjacent one of the corners thereof and these shoulders are designed to be slightly outbent and to engage with the elastic band 9 when the same is stretched around the neckof the bottle, as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing, and wherby the said band will cause the strip to conform to the outer contour of the neck ofthe bottle at the same time holding the said strip in proper position with respect to the bottle neck, so that the inscriptions thereon will be perfectly apparent to both the dealer and purchaser.
provided with a suitable guard or tag provided with outturned Having thus described the invention, What I claim is:
A tag for milk bottles comprising a flat strip of bendable material having at its up- 5 per corners outwardly projecting portions forming shoulders, and said shoulders being outturned with respect to the body of the strip, said strip having two spaced openings therethrough, and an endless elastic band passing through said openings and contacting with the strip outward of the openings and with the lower edges of the shoulders when the device is arranged on the neck of a bottle.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. OLE. O. KOLSTAD.
