BRACED COOKING AND HEATING ATTACHMENT FOR- LAMPS.
Specification of Letterslatent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1920.
Application filed October 24, 1919. Serial No. 332,962
" To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CoNsr r Nn SAVITSKY, formerly a citizen of Russia, (having declaredmy intention to become a citizen of the United States,) residing at the city and county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Braced Cooking and Heating Attachments forLamps; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description or the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon,.which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an attachment of this character by means of which considerable weights of food or water may be supported by the lamp while being cooked or heated.
Briefly, the invention comprises standards secured to the sides of the lamp at the bead, these standards carrying a shade support and upright arms, which connect at their upper ends with straps directly supporting the tray for the cooking vessel. The straps depend and carrying upon their lower ends an apertured plate which fits about the lamp chimney and rests upon the shade, whereby the shade and said upright arms jointly support the weight of the cooking vessel and contents. The standards are braced by means of short rods, connected therewith, and with means provided upon the burner portion of the lamp.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the invention in use.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical section.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 1; and
F ig. 4 is a section on line 4-4: of Fig. 1.
A lamp 10 is provided with the usual burner 12 and chimney 14- retained by'means of spring fingers 16. Two annular members 20, secured together by means of bolts or screws 21, are mounted upon the bead of the lamp as indicated. The upper ring member 20 carries upstanding standards 22, whose upper ends support a shade carrier 23. The standards are braced by means of lower rods 24, connected therewith at 25, and to the burner by means of a ring 26. The standards are further braced by means of spring rods 27, secured at 28 and hooked 32 and 3d are adapted to receive a U-shaped, staple 35 or other suitable means for con-- necting the arms 33 with the standards 22. At their intermediate portions a circular bracing member 135 is provided. The upper extremities of the arms 33 are connected at 36 with the upper extremities of straps 37, which directly support the tray 38 of the cooking vessel-carrying means, the tray 38 being secured to the straps 37 by screws or bolts 39. A reinforcing ring 40 is secured to the straps 37 at an intermediate point, and adjacent the lower ends of the straps 37 a plate 42, apertured at 43 for the reception of the lamp chimney 14 is provided. This plate 42 has a depending annular flange 4:4 and depending cars 45 bolted to the straps 37. An additional reinforcing ring 46 is bolted to the lowermost portions of the straps 37. The plate 42 rests directly upon the top of the lamp shade S, and in this manner the weight of the material bein cooked or heated is supported both by the shade and by the arms 33. In this manner a thoroughly rigid structure is provided.
The means on the tray 38 for supporting the cooking vessel comprises a cylinder 50 secured to the tray 38, and a sleeve 51 within the cylinder, and having an overhanging flange 52 to engage the top of the chimney. A heat spreader 53 may be provided at the top of the cylinder 50. A pan 54, having an outer flange and an upstanding innerfiange 55, is mounted upon the tray 38 to receive liquid boiling over from the cooking vessel above.
A framework 56, carrying upright bolts 57, supports a carrier 58 for the cooking vessel 60. This structure for supporting the cooking vessel is, with the exception of be high flange 55, substantially the same as that covered in my Patent No. 1,316,980, granted to me September 23rd, 1919.
I claim:
1. In combination, a lamp having a bowl and a chimney, standards secured to the bowl, upright members on said standards,
and vessel-supportingmeans connected with the members and overhanging the chimney.
2. In combination, a lamp having a bowl and a chimney, standards secured to the bowl, a shademounted on said standards, upright arms connected with the standards,
depending straps having their upper portions connected with the upper portions 01":
said upright arms, a"vessel-supporting de vice mounted on sald straps, and an apertured plate secured to the lower ends of the tions connected with the upper portions of said upright arms, a vessel-supporting device mounted on said straps, and an apertured plate secured to the lower ends of the straps, said plate fitting about the chimney and resting upon said shade, said arms being detachably connected with the standards.
4.1 In combination, a lamp having a bowl and a chimney, standards secured to the bowl, a shade-carrying rim mounted on the standards, a shade on said rim, upright arms detachably connected with the. standards, depending parts connected with the upper portions of the arms, an apertured plate secured to the lower portions of said parts and positioned about said chimney and resting upon said shade, and a vessel supporting device carried at the top of the structure to overhang the chimney.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CON STANTINE SAVITSKY.
