Description

'J. W. .TOMPSON. HOLDER FOR SHARPENING RAZOR BLADES.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 6, I920.
Patented, Oct. 26,1920.
15,0 project out far enough JOHN W. TOMPSON, OF OKLAHOMA,
Application filed May 6;
T aZZw/zom it may concern:
Be it known that I,'JOHN ToMPsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Oklahoma city, in the county of'Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain Improvements in Holders for Sharpening Razor-Blades, of which the'following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
cheap, simple, and convenient holder for sharpening razor blades.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view showing the improved holder and a fragment of a strop on which it is being used.
1g. 2 is a perspective view showing the two main portions of the holder in position for assemblage.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blade-holding end of the-holder.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 4-4: of Fig. 3, also showing two. il ouble-edge blades which do not appear in ig. 3. f i Fig. 5 is a reproduction of Fig. 4, but showing single-edge blades.
ike characters of reference designate like parts in all the figures.
In carrying out the object stated, the improved holder comprises two elongated and similarly shaped portions 6 and 7 which meet each other on a plane and are adapted to coact in gripping and holding the blades to be sharpened. The blade-holding end of-each of the portions 6 and 7 is widened as shown, so that two blades 8 of the .width commonly used may be clamped between them at the same time.
the blades 8 in the holder, an elongated stud 9 is mounted on the holding face 10 of one of the portions, 6, and the the other portion 7 is recessed, as at 11, to
freely clear said stud.
The distance between the stud 9 and the edges13 of the gripping portions 6 and 7 is such that the blades 8, their inner edges in contact with said stud,
to have their outer edges honed on the strop 14.
Specification of Letters Patent.
The object of the invention is to provide a To provide an alining guide for placing.

T he recess 15 in which the'stud 9 is set is In order under-cut to yieldably hold said stud in place.
Many of the single-edge blades 16 used are narrower than the double-edge blades 8 and have a ribbed or thickened-rear edge 17.
The gripping .faces 10 of the portions 6 are therefore. recessed, as at 19, to freely clear the thickened rear edges 17 of the blades 16; and in alining these blades 16-said rear edges 17 abut the rear edges 20 of the recesses as shown in Fig. 5.
At the opposite end 21 the meeting face of the portion 6 is provided with a dowel stud 22, and this stud fits in a recess 23 on the face of the other portion 7. Y
A screw '24. holds the two portions 6 and 7 in assemblageand in forced gripping'contact with the blades, and said screw and the stud 22 hold said portions in ;proper alinement with each other. V
The following is claimed 1. In a device of the class described, two
clamping portions meetingeachother .on a
