Be it lmown that I, CHERLOTTE WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Culinary Implements, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in culinary implements, and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed for the scraping of pots, pans and the like, and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character including a flat plate or blade substanti-ally rectangular in form, and having a plurality of its edges sharpened, together with a handle member secured to said blade" in a manner to facilitate the working operation of the device.

A further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which is of especial ad vantage in scraping large kettles and pans that are used in hotels or the like, and which may also be employed to scrape sinks, stoves, ovens and other articles or parts generally found in the kitchens of relatively large establishments.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved culinary implement whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, Iwill now proceed to describe the same with reference to the ac companying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a scraper constructed in accordance w1th an embodiment of my invention;

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in perspective of a modified form of invention;

Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of another embodiment of my invention;

Fig. 4 is an elevational view of a still further, modified form.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a flat plate substantially rectangular in form, and which is preferably formed of steel of a grade sufficient to hold an edge and strong enough to maintain the plate rigid. One longitudinal edge and both of the end edges are sharpened, as indicated at a with the corners connecting said sharpened edges slightly rounded.

Rigidly secured to the longitudinal central part of the plate 1 adjacent the second or dull marginal portion is a post or shank 2, having its outer end continued by an extension 3 substantially at right angles thereto, or substantially in parallelism with the plate 1. Engaged with the extension 3 is ahand grasp or handle 4, preferably angular, in cross section, and of a length to permit an effective gripping above thereon by the fingers of the hand.

scraper constructed as just described can be employed with pronounced advantage in the scraping of pots, kettles or the like, and also in the scraping or cleansing of sinks, stoves, tables and other surfaces, and particularly when it is necessary to clean around or under pipes or the like.

My scraper when employed in connection with pots, kettles and kindred articles, is particularly adapted for use with the bottoms thereof, as it is not generally necessary to scrape the sides. However, in order that the sides of such utensils may be scraped, I can employ the type of imple ment illustrated in Fig. 2, and wherein an end of the plate 1 is provided with an upstanding flange 5, having its outer longitudinal edge sharpened.

In. Fig. 3 I show a scraper wherein the blade 1 is substantially the same as described with respect to the plate or blade 1, but the outer end portion of the post or shank 2 is provided with a cross head 6 extending longitudinally of the plate or blade 1 and the opposite sides of the post or shank 2, so that in gripping the cross head two fingers will be at opposite sides of the post or shank 2 This form of scraper is of particular advantage where the scraping surface, is not obstructed by pipes or the like, and with the gripping directly over the blade or plae 1", greater weight can be imposed upon the plate or blade 1 during the working operation. and such operation accomplished more easily.

In the form of invention illustrated in Fig. 4 the blade 1' is also substantially the same as the blade or plate 1. Extending upwardly adjacent the dull edge portion of N the plate 1' isa pair of longitudinally spaced posts or standards 2 connected by a cross'member or handle 7. The posts or shanks 2' are preferably spaced. apart a disstance to permit all four fingers of a hand to grasp the cross member or handle 7 therebetween.

I also find that it is sometimes of importance to have the standards 2, 2 or 2 on a slant and particularly in a direction longitudinal of the blade with which the standard coacts, and it is also to be understood that while I have hereinbefore stated that my improved implement is of particular advantage in hotels or the like, it is to be understood that it can be employedwith equal facility in'the home. 7

From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a culinary implement constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim:

A scraper comprising a substantially flat elongated rigid blade the end edges and a longitudinal edge being sharpened, an end portion of the blade being upturned, said upturned portion extending transversely of the blade and entirely thereacross, and a handle member extending outwardly from a fiat face of the blade at a point adjacent the second longitudinal edge thereof.
