ANNA ELIZABETH WE'I'SLER, 0F PORTLAND, OREGON.
PICKLING-WEIGHT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 12, 1920. Serial No. 350,807.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA E. lVnTsLnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pickling-\Veights, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved weight for use for pressing pickles, sauer-kraut and other substances in crocks and other like vessels to hold such substances immersed in brine, or other preservative fluid, the objectof the invention being to provide an improvedwei ht of this kind which can be made of stone ware, glass, porcelain, or other material which is impervious to the action of the brine and is prevented from disintegrating, crumbling or corroding, and is also prevented from injuring the plckles, sauer-kraut or the like.
My invention consists of a weight having a central opening for the passage of air the-rethrough and also having radial grooves on its upper and lower sides extending from said opening to its periphery, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a plan of my improved pickling weight.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same as used in acrock or the like.
Fig. 3 is a plan showing a. modified construction of my improved weight.
My improved pickling weight 1 is circular, may be of any size according to the size of the crock, barrel or other vessel in which it is to be used, and may be of any suitable thickness and is made oi stone ware, glass or porcelain or other heavy material and which is not subject to corrosion. The weight has a central opening 2 of suitable size for the passage of air therethrough and is also provided, on the upper and lower sides, which are flat, with radial grooves 3 which extend from said opening to the pe-- riphery of the weight. In Fig. 3 of the drawings I show a modified form of my weight of larger size and which in addition to the central opening and radial grooves is provided with hand holes 4 which are spaced a suitable distance from the edge thereof and which are here shown as four in number. Any suitable number of hand holes may be provided.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A. pickling weight of disk formation having a central opening therein, flat upper and lower faces, each provided with radial grooves extending from said central opening to the periphery of the weight, and
hand holes between said central opening and the aforesaid periphery.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ANNA ELIZABETH XVETSLER.
