LIQUID-DISPENSIEG APPARATUS.
V To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR ScHMm, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Zollikon, near Zurich, in the Cane ton of Zurich, Republic of Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Liquid-Dispensing Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art'to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
The object of the invention is a liquid dispensing apparatus especially intended for the dispensing of non-alcoholic liquids or liquids containing only a very small percentage of alcohol in order to prevent the beverage from getting stale or from deteriorating by standing.
With the known apparatus of this kind Vthe liquid is subjectedto the pressure of a gas, for instance carbonio acid which is either pressed directly into the cask or receptacle, or a receptacle charged with the gas is placed inside of the cask from which matically.
A vnumber of devices have been invented having as their object to retard the decomf position or deterioration of beverages as for i" instance, milk by the use of nitrogen.
In contradistinction thereto, the object of the present invention is to provide a liquid dispensing apparatus, which serves to keep the beverage potable for a considerable length of time. With this end in view, the receptacle containing the liquid to be dispensed is provided with a receptacle containing the gas from which the latter is dispensed in quantities suiiicient to replace the quantity of liquid dispensed, so that the liquid is constantly under pressure and cannot lose its potableness, no matter how long time it requires to dispense the entire contents of a cask, etc.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a vertical section through the preferred form of the apparatus.

From this chamber the gasatreduced presi sure Hows through the vertical channels 19 and 2O into Athecask. The gas container 3 has such a capacity that one filling is suiiicient VtofeXpel the entire contents of the cask. A v j u V As soon as the pressure is reduced by dispensing one or more drinks, the Varm`12k moving between the springs 13 and 14 and tightly secured to the membrane 16 Yopens the gas channel until the pressure in the cask becomes normal. Y 'Y Thevopenedtap, 'shown in Fig. 1 is closed by turning the stop cock 9 4by means of the handle 10, Aso that the dispensing channels 81 and 82 'come out ofcommunicationwith the parts 71 and 72 of the channel.
For the purpose of sterilizing. the appa# ratus and the cask, the Anozzle 7 3 is connected with a source of steam which upon the proper operation of the cock 9 will pass through channels 7 and the siphon branch 6 into the barrel or cask 1 and properly sterilize the same by destroying all bacteria contained in said apparatus'or barrel.

By pushing the arm 12 inwardly by means of a pin or the like, introduced through the spring 14, part of the steam will iiow through the channel 18 and the filter to the outside.
The container for the -gas under pressure is connected to the apparatus 2 by means of a pressure pipe 24 (Fig. 3) and is also sterilized during the sterilization of the gas passages. In this manner the apparatus is thoroughly sterilized and as it is constantly held under a pressure above the atmospheric pressure, it will be impossible that air and Vico microbes can enter the apparatus after it has been once sterilized and placed under the pressure of the gas.
Fig. 2 shows a modied form of apparatus in which a reducing valve is used. outlet for the liquid a lift valve in place of a tap is used. The valve can be operated by means of the knob l0. To sterilize the apparatus, steam can be used in the same manner as described with respect to Fig. 1. The
steam pressure opens the recoiling valve 25 Y toward the side of the gas, which side is sterilized as described in Fig. 1.
The retail pouring out of sterile drinks in optional quantities without infecting the contents and at a constant pressure is made possible with both of the described constructions provided the compressed gas re-V ceptacle containsenough gas to empty the Cask of all the liquid.
