T0 all whom 'it may concern Bc it known that I, VICTOR Nivois, a citizen of France, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new` and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Cases, of which the ich lowing is a specification.

This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in cigarette cases.

ln the present instance it is my purpose to provide a case which may be used as an original container for the cigarettes, that is to say, the latter are intended to be initially packed in the casel at the factory and subsequently vended in such case to the ultimate consumer. Therefore, in the manufacture of my case I prefer to employ relatively cheap or inexpensive material such as tough cardboard, paste-board or the like, but it will of course be understood that if desired the case may be made of more expensive and durable material such as metal, in such instances where it is desired to provide a case which is intended to be frequently re-filled as contra-distinguished froma case which is only intended to constitute an original container for the cigarettes.

i Still a further object of the invention is the provision of a cigarette case which isoso shaped and constructed as to be easily slipped into the pocket of a coat or other article of wearing apparel, and which will fit thereinV without causing the pocket to bulge or otherwise present an untidy appearance.

Ialso propose to provide a case embodying a holder in which the cigarettes may be stowed or packed in such manner as to be constantly maintained in an upright position and also in parallelism, eachindividual cigarette being held out of contact with the adjacent cigarette or cigarettes, this holder being so mounted relative to the outer cover sections of the case that, when the latter are moved'to open position, the holder will assume `such an angular position relative to the covers as to enable the cigarette to be conveniently and quickly removed.

Furthermore, I propose to provide a ciga rette case wherein the holder, and also the A cover portion. of the case may each be made from a single blank of material, thus enabling the case to be produced in great. quantities at a relatively low cost.

I also propose to provide a case having a holder which is so constructed that when the original contents of the holder have been removed it cannot be readily refilled with other cigarettes without breaking or injuring the latter to such an extent as to render it unproitable to attempt to refill the case.

lV ith the above recited objects and others of a similar nature in view my invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and allV ing within the scope of the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a perspective view of a form of cigarette case embodying my invention, the case being shown as 'partially open.

Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken through the case of Fig, l when the latter is closed..

Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank from which the holder may be made.

Fig. 5 is a view in side elevation of one wall of a modified form of holder, the connecting web between this wall and the opposite or companion wall of the holder being shown in section.

ln the drawings, :the letter A indicates the case cover as anentirety while the letter B designates the holder of the case. The cover A which is preferably made of sti, tough card-board, paste-board or the like, is preferably manufactured :from a single blank suitably cut and shaped to form the two oppositely bowed cover sections 1-1 each of which has a pair of end walls 2-2, the cover sections being connected by a web 8, which constitutes a hinge for the cover sections as willbe readily understood. When the two bowed cover sections are closed as shown in F ig. 2, the longitudinal free edges @t ofV these sections converge and meet, due to the taper of the cover sections so that a relatively thin reduced longitudinaledge for the caseresults, thereby enabling the case to fit snugly and neatly in the pocket and without bulg lar in shape butl is provided with a projecting tab 5, at one of its shorter side edges, and also has a slot 6y cut therein whichextends from oneV of the longitudinal side edges of the blank inward of the latter to a point be-y yondy the central. longitudinal line ofy the blank. The blank is marked with longiti'idinal score lines 7-7 and thetraiisverse score lines 8, 9.and 10. In forming the liolderthe blank is bent on the score lines 8 and 9 to form thel end wall11, is folded on the score lines 10-10 to form the end wall 12 and the lip 13, the latterbeing pasted against'the adjacent side wall 14 of the holder, which extends parallel to its companion wall 15'th'ese side walls being yformedv byl bending the blank as just described. Above the row of spacedtongues 16, the wall 15 is separated fr'ointhe adjacent'end walls 11 and'12 of the'holder by slitting or Ecutting as shown at 18,.and this upper' portion of the wall 15 is intended to be bentoutward on the .score line 19,y thus providing a yguide flange by means of which the vcigarettes may be readily guided in their vinsertion andreymovalv from the holder. ,When thefcaseV is closed thisflange section ofthe wall 15 isof course moved inward until it is parallel with the wall 14,`while when the case is open this flange section may be grasped and pressed or. pushed outward as shown in Fig. 1.

In Aorder to cover the cigarette clamping tongues 16, and to give a neat appearance to :the holder, the latter may be provided with an eXteiiial'covei-ing of paper, fabric or other suitable material, indicated at 20, and which is applied with the adhesive coating v21.

What I claim isl. A cigarette case comprising a pair` of cover sections and a holder adapted to be inclosed thereby, said holder' comprising a box-like body portion formed from a single blank of material and having a series of cigarette engaging members extendingl inward from one wall thereof and adapted to contact the cigarettes adjacent the cigarette inner ends, said members having alength configuration to provide contact with a cigarette at a point spaced from the member free end.

2. A cigarette case comprising a pair of hinged cover sections, and a holder adapted to be inclosed thereby, said holder including a box-like body portion and a pair of outwardly extending attaching means all formed from a single blank, said attaching means having a width greater than the width of the adjacent body portion wall and being adapted to lie in contact with and to be secured to the adjacent walls of the cover sections, whereby said attaching means will project above the body portion when the case is closed.

A cigarette case comprising a pair of hinged cover sections formed from a single blank, said cover sections having converging longitudinally extending meeting edges, and a holder adapted to be inclosed by the cover sections, said holder comprising a boX-lilre body portion having outwardly eX- tending wings formed at its lower longitudinal edges, said wings having a width greater than the width of the adjacent body portion wall and being, adapted to be attached to the inner faces of the cover sections.

A cigarette case comprising a pair of hinged cover sections, and a holder adapted to be inclosed thereby, said holder including a body portion having one of the walls thereof separated from and movable relative to the adjacent end walls of the holder at its upper portion, said wall also having a series of inwardly extending cigarette engaging members formed integral therewith and adapted to contact the cigarettes adjacent the cigarette inner ends.

5. In a cigarette case, a box-like holder adapted to receive the cigarettes and formed from a single blank, said holder having one of the walls thereof cut to provide a series of cigarette engaging tongues, said tongues being bent inwardly of the holder and positioned to contact the cigarettes adjacent their inner ends, said tongues having a length coniiguration to provide contact with a cigarette at a point spaced from the tongue free end.

6. In a cigarette oase, a box-like holder adapted to receive the cigarettes and formed from a single blank, said holder having one of the walls thereof provided with a member having means normally extending inward of the, holder to constitute barriers for preventing the re-illing of the holders.

T. In a cigarette case, a holder having two substantially parallel side walls, one of said v7alls having a series of inwardly extending cigarette clamping members, the other of said walls being provided with means for preventing the re-lilling of the holder.

8. In a Cigarette case, a holder having one wall thereof cut to pro-vide an inwardly eX- tending serrated flange adapted to prevent the refilling of the holder.

9. A cigarette case comprising a pair of cover sections, and a holder adapted to be inclosed within the cover sections, said holder having a wall thereof formed with a row of inwardly projecting cigarette engaging members, each member being adapted to contact a cigarette adjacent the inner cigarette end to clamp the cigarette against the opposite wall of the holder, said members having a length configuration to provide Contact with a cigarette at a point spaced from the member free end.

10. A cigarette case comprising a pair of cover sections, and a non-metallic holder adapted to be inclosed within the cover. sections, said holder having a wall thereof formed with a row of inwardly projecting cigarette engaging members, each member being adapted to clamp an adjacent cigarette against the opposite wall of the holder, and a cover sheet applied to the outside of the holder and overlying the cigarette engaging members.

ll. A cigarette case comprising a pair of cover sections, and a holder adapted to be inclosed within the cover sections, said holder having a pair of substantially parallel walls, one of which has a row of spaced inwardly bent cigarette engaging tongues formed integral therewith, said tongues projecting in directions away from the open mouth of the vholder and having a length configuration to provide contact with a cigarette at a point spaced from the tongue free end.

1Q. In a cigarette case, a pair of covers, and a holder adapted to be inclosed thereby, said holder having one of the walls thereof provided with a row of inwardly projecting cigarette engaging tongues, the upper portion of the wall being movablerelative to the tongue carrying section thereof.

13. A cigarette case comprising a pair of hinged cover sections, and a holder adapted to be inclosed thereby, said holder including a body portion having one of the walls thereof separated from and movable relative to theadjaoent end walls of theholder at its upper portion, said movable Wall .being adapted to .serve as a guide flangerby means of which the cigarettes mayberguidedI dur ing yinsertion and removal from the holder,
