To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRITZ SABBOW, a subject of the German Empire, residing at Lester-shire, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Pipe- Benches, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to folding pipe benches in which a pipe bench is so constructed that the parts are light yet strong and are so united as to fold against each other so as to enable it to be easily carried and set up at any convenient location for use.

Vith these objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims; reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front view of my device partially folded. Fig. 2 is a side view of my device when set up for use. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a part of my device.

The same reference characters denote like parts in each of the several figures of the drawing.

In carrying out my invention I provide a metal frame A. Mounted on the top of the frame A I have the pipe-holding device B of usual construction. This frame A I usually construct of angle iron so that it may be light and strong. At the base of frame A I have the cross rod C and hinged on the rod C I have the foot board D turning on the hinges 2. 2.

In Fig. 1 the foot-board D is raised in a vertical position. The foot-board D is composed of a metal frame inside of which are cross-boards of wood fastened in any convenient manner; or it may be formed of a sheet of metal. Hinged between the sides of A I have the bail E bent intermediate of its ends to form a recess 3 or looped portion and having the ends 4. 4 bent around and hinged upon the cross rod F mounted in frame A. Hinged to the top of frame A I have the swing leg G which has projecting laterally from it about midway, on each side, the pins or lugs 5. 5. 5, adapted to support the sides of the recess 3 when the-leg G is resting between the recess 3 as shown in Fig. 3.

hen my device is folded up the foot board D folds back over onto frame A or into frame A. The bail E drops down and the leg G is folded back against frame A. Thus the whole device is folded up ready for transportation or carrying from place to place.

When it is desired to use the device, the foot board D is turned over on the ground for the operator tostand on. The swing leg G is pulled backward; the bail E is pulled outward until the recess 3 receives the leg Gr and rests upon the pins 5. 5. Thus the leg G is held in firm position resting upon the ground while the weight of the body of the operator standing on the foot board D holds the forward part of the frame A in firm contact with the ground or foundation on which the device is set up and thus the bench can be readily put up and used and taken down and is portable to be taken from place to place and there used.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and for which I desire Letters Patent is as follows:

1. In a folding pipe bench a supporting frame hinged to the bench; a foot board hinged to the lower part of said frame; a swing leg hinged to the opposite side of said supporting frame; a bail mounted in said support frame and having a recess formation in its outer side adapted to receive said swing leg; and lugs mounted on said swing leg tosupport said bail when the leg is resting within the recess in said bail.

2. In a pipe bench, a supporting frame hinged to the bench, a swinging leg secured to the bench opposite to the supporting frame, a bail having its ends pivotally mounted in said supporting frame and provided intermediate of its ends with a looped portion for receiving the swinging leg, and a lug mounted on said swinging leg to support said bail when said leg is within the looped portion of said bail.
