HELENE V. A. LORING, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SHOULDER-BRACE.
Speoioation of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1i), 1916.
Application filed August 31, 1914, Serial No. 859,400. Renewed May 3. 1916. Serial No. 95.255.
l'o all whom it may concern lie it known that I, llera-:Nu V. A. Louise, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident ot the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain ncw and useful Improvements in Shoulder- Braces. of which the following` is a specificat-ion.
My invention relates to improvements in shoulder braces especially adapted 'for use by women and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
'lho invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing: formingr a part of this specification, and in which-- Figure 1 is a front view of a brace. embodying my invention, Fig. 2, a rear view of the same. and Fig. 8, a side view of the same.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in thc drawing comprises a waist belt It adapted to encircle the waist of the wearer and provided at the front with a buckle 5 for adjusting the same to position. A belt is also provided to go around the chest of the, wearer, said belt consisting of a rear non-elastic portion 6 and a front elastic portion 7 secured to the bottom of portion 6 at each side b v stitches 8 and provided with a buckle. t) at the front for adjustingr the An attachment is secured to the bottom of belt portion 6 centrally at the back. said attachment consistiu, r oi an upper wider loop 10 and a lower narrower loop 11. An elastic strap 12 is passed through loop 1l. and has its ends adiustably .secured to belt 4 by means of buckles i8. Another broader strap 14 is passed through loop 10 and has its ends extended over the corresponding shoulders of the, wearer as shown. At the front the ends of strap ll are extended downwardly and slightly inwardlv and are stitched to the ends of belt portion 6 and the top of belt portion 7 by means of lines of stitching l5. rThe portions of the strap 14 immediatelv above the stitchingrs 15 arc enlarged and outwardly hulged to accommodate the luist. From portions 16 narrower and tapering portions 17 are inclined upwardly toward the oppositel shoulders and are adjustably secured to the opposite ends of said strap by means of buckles 18. This construction constitutes a simple and ellicient construction ior the purpose. and one which may be worn with ,great comfort. '.I`he enlarged portions 16 oi the. ends of strap l-l also serre as a brassire..
While l hare illustrated and described the, preferred iorm oi construction for carrying my invention into effect. this is capable ot variation and modification without departinsr from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore. do not wish to bo limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A shoulder brace comprising"f a belt adapted to encircle the chest; a loop on said belt at the back; and a strap passed through said loop and slidable therein, each end of Said strap passing thence over the corresponding shoulder, thence downwardly and inwardly over the bust and attached to said belt and thence inclined upwardly toward the opposite shoulder and detachably secured to the other end of said strap, substantially as described.
2. A shoulder brace comprising a belt adapted to encircle the chest; the front part of said belt being made of elastic material; u. loop on said belt at the back; and a strap passed through said loop, each end of said strap assing thence over the correspondirngr shonl er, thence downwardly and inwardly over the bust and attached to said belt and thence inclined upwardly toward the opposite shoulder and detachably secured to the other end of said strap, substantially as described.
3. A shoulder brace comprising a bolt adapted to encircle the chest; a loop on said belt at the back; a strap passed through said loop, each end of said strap passing thence over the corresponding shoulder, thence downwardly and inwardly over the bust and attached to said belt and thence inclined upwardly toward the opposite shoulder and detachably secured to the other end of said strap; a belt encircling the waist; and a yieldable connection between said belts at the back, substantially as described.
4. A shoulder brace comprising a belt adapted to encircle the chest, the front part lill) lio of said belt being made of elastic material; a loop on said belt at the back; a strap passed through said loop, each end of said strap passing thence over the corresponding shoulder, thence downwardly and inwardly over the bust and attached to said belt and thence inclined upwardly toward the opposite shoulder and detachably secured lto the other end of said stra a belt encircling the waist; and a yieltliible connection between the belts at the back, substantially as described.
A shoulder brace comprising a belt adapted to encirclethe chest, the front part of said belt being made of elastic material and the rear of non-elastic material; a member secured to the bottom of said belt centrally at the back, said member comprising an upper and larger loop and a lower and smaller loop; a strap passed through said upper loop, each end of said strap passing thence over the corresponding shoulder, thence downwardly and inwardly and enlarged and outwardly bulged over the bust and attached to said belt and thence inclinedupwardly toward the opposite shoulder and detachabl secured to tie other end of said strap; a elt encircling the waist' and an elastic strap )assed through the ower of said loops an havin its ends adjustably secured to said waist elt, substantially as described.
(SQA shoulder brace comprising a belt adapted to encircle the body; and a strap. having a slidable connection with said belt at the back, each end of said strap passing thence over the corresponding shoulder, thence downwardly and inwardly over the bust and attached to said belt and thence inclined upwardly toward the op iosite shoulder and detachably secured to the other end of said strap. substantially as described.
7. A shoulder brace comprising a belt adapted to encircle the chest; a strap having a slidable connection with said be back, each end of said strap passing thence over the correspoudin r shoulder, thence downwardly and lnward y over the bust and attached to said belt and thence inclined upwardly toward the opposite shoulder and detacliably secured to the other end of said strap; a belt adapted to encircle the waist; a strap having a slidable connection with said chest strap at the back; and an adjustable connection between the ends of said last mentioned stra and said waist belt, substantially as descri ed.
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification in the presence ot' two subscribin witnesses.
