To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN W. BELCHER, a citizen of the United States, residing. at Allston, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop, Broom, and Carpet-Sweeper Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in supports of that type adapted for attachment to a fixed structure such as a wall or the like and primarily intended for supporting household articles in the nature of mops, brooms, carpet sweepers and the like.

An object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above stated character wherein means are employed for preventing the article holder from becoming accidentally displaced from the suspending plate.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawing more particularly, by way of reference characters, 5 denotes the support which may be made of any suitable material, but is preferably constructed of brass and the like and comprises a Hat suspending plate 6. lhis suspending plate is provided adjacent its opposite terminals with openings for the insertion of a support in the form of a nail and the like and is primarily adapted to be supported to a fixed structure such as the wall and the like. The said suspending plate 6 is formed on its opposite longitudinal edges with integrally and angularly bent bearings 7 and 8, for pivotally supporting on the suspending plate an integral household article holding device 9, primarily adapted for supporting mops, brooms and carpet sweepers.

This article holding device is formed adjacent one end with laterally extending trunnions 10 adapted to engage with the bearings 7 and 8 of the suspending plate.

The article holding device is provided with a slot 11, the limbs 12 and 13 forming one wall of said slot, having their meeting ends spaced from one another and so formed to permit of the coil spring 14 being inserted between the ends of the limbs and in embracing relation thereto. This spring 14 tensions the article holding device, and further serves to prevent any accidental displacement of its trunnions from the bearings 7 and 8 of the suspending plate. lhe opposite end of the article holding device is formed with an annular ring 15 provided on its inner circumference with a plurality of circumferentially arranged gripping members 16 in the form of prongs, and as will be seen upon insertion of the handles of the article holding device, such as mops, brooms and carpet sweepers.

in order that the article holding device 9 may assume a position for at all times receiving the household articles, I provide the bearing 8 of the suspending plate 6 with an extension 17, which is bent inwardly and upon the suspending plate in a substantially downward inclined direction to provide a limiting stop 18.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while if have described the principles of operation of the device together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such advantages may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claim appended hereto.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
