TOY FOB INFANTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 26, 1917. Serial no. 208,869.
and pardollsor chair, a table, or any other suitable support, the toy being mounted upon the base by means of a spring which is freely movable in practically all directions and which is preferably a coil spring, so that the child may strike the figure and thereby cause the figure to oscillate rapidly to the great amusement of the child, or may draw the figure over toward it by the flexibility of the spring, the figure being provided with a teething ring, a pacifier or other suitable device of like character which the child may take into its mouth.
Other objects will appear in the course of the following description.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is an elevation partly in section of my improved toy showing it applied to a support, the support being in section;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the upper end of thetoy, showing a teething ring applied thereto.
Referring to these'iigures, it will be seen that my improved figure toy comprises a clamp 10 having a lower jaw 11 and an upper jaw 12, the upper jaw being deflected so as to extend laterally and then clownward, and then laterally and rest flat against a table or other support. Through the lower jaw 12 passes a binding screw 13. Extending upward from the jaw 12 is spring 14, which may be a round spring like a piece of highly tensioned spring wire or is preferably a coiled. contractile spring. Mounted upon the extremity of this spring is a doll 15 or other figure. I do not wish. to be limited to the style of this figure, as itmay be in the form of a Teddy bear, or any other animal, but I have illustrated a doll. Whatever this figure is, it is preferably provided upon its head with a member 16 which may" be either in the form.
Patented se t. 24., 1918.
I of an ordinary 'paclfier or in the form of a teething ring,
the teething 3mg being designated 17 and the pacifier 1-8.
The clamp permits the device to be at-\ tached to a table, as for instance thetable A of a-high chair, the offset portion of the I upper jaw permitting the clamp to be placed over the usual rail around the edge ,of the table. The child striking or hitting the doll which will cause it to oscillate back and forth or from side to side in any direction, thereby amusing the infant- Furthermore, if the support be made of a stifi coil spring, thespring will can keep itself amused by not only vibrate freely in all directions when the doll is struck or pulled and 'released, but the spring may be also expanded by drawing upon'the doll so that the child can easily get the teething ring or pacifier in its mouth and then upon release of the doll, the doll will swing back to its initial position and vibrate as before described. As before stated, I do not wish to limit myself to any of the details as to the form of doll or figure nor to the specific form of pacifier or teething ring or other like member, nor to the specific form of the clamp, except as stated in the. appended claims. Thus, for instance, the buttons on the doll may be in the form of bells or rattles to render the figure more attractive. and interesting to a child.
Having described my invention, wh-rt I claim is 1. A toy of the character described comprising a clamp, a' spring extending from the clamp, and oscillatable freely in all directions, and a figure mounted upon the spring to oscillate therewith.
2. A toy of the character described comprising a base, a coil spring extending upupon said support to oscillate therewith, "and a, member mounted upon the figure for insertion in the mouth of a child.
4. A toy of the cheracter described-coms prising a clamp including opposed jaws and a screw passing through one of the jaws, a spring extending upward from the other jaw and freely oscillata'ble in a plurality of directions, and a figure carried uponthe spring and oscillatable therewith.
5. A toy of the character described comprising a spring, a supporting and attaching means disposed at the lower end of the emme signature in the presence of two-witnesses. 15
