KEY-PULLING DEVICE.
Application led July 30, 1917.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES C. R. HAM- MAR, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and usefulI Key-Pulling Device, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to a key pulling device and its object is to remove headed keys from their secured position upon a rotary shafting having the mounted member thereon.
One of the objects of the invention is to produce a key puller that is simple but effective, the low cost of which will allow for its extensive use, the device being standardized in variable sizes.
With these objects in View, the invention comprises various features of construction, as hereinafter set forth in the following description in which the same numeral is applied to the same portion throughout; however, I am aware that within the scope of the claims there may be several modifications thereof.
Figure 1 is an end elevation of the key pulling device removing a key from an end shafting.

is 'to be understfmd that variable size devices may be similarly construetml for larger or smaller keys. Jack screws 1l and 15 are case hardened and have a liberal threaded portion 1G engaging tapped holes 17 and are adjustable to bear against the face of the hub 'T of the pulley or gear that may be in place thereon, as s hown in Fig. 3. The operation is as follows z-By turning the head portion of the jack screws with a suitable wrench, the lip portion 11 draws on the inner face 12 of the key, as the jack screws 14; and 15 bear against the face of the hub 7, thereby removing the key from the coincident keyways of the shaft and ofthe hub 7, the center line of pull being at or near the axis of the jack screws 1&1 and 15. The drawing is assisted by a set screw 1S threaded into a semi-circular portion of a yoke 19 having two extending straight ends with cap-screws 20 and 2l threaded therein which are fulcrumed in the slotted portions 22 and 23 in the block 8 which allow for the adjustment of the yoke and set screw 18 for the proper holding position on either an end shaft as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or a through shafting as shown in Fig. 3. It is to be noted that the lower portion of the block 8 is curved concentric with the shaft giving a better proportion to the device, but it is to be understood that this may be straight. It is to be further understood that the yoke with its set screw may or may not be used in connection with the block, and may be dispensed with in the extraction of large headed keys, for example over l the large holding area allowing for a firmer grip than in smaller keys where the yoke will materially assist in starting the key, preventing it from binding.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:-
1. A key pulling device comprising a metal block having a hollow portion therein forming a lip portion integral therewith; said lip portion adaptablefto engage the headed portion of a key securing two locked members; an adjustable yoke having its ends fulerumed onto said metal block; said block provided with adjustable jack-screws arranged in the side portions thereof; said jack-screws adaptable to bear upon one of thc locked members; said yoke provided with means to hold the device in its operating positionvduring the operation of the jackscrews for the extraction of the key from its secured position.`
2.
