To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CIIRIs'rIAN Srrcnnn- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandwich, in the county of Dekalb and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Door-Mat, of which the following is a specification.

The device forming the subject matter of this application is a door mat, and one object of the invention is to improve the cleaning surface of the mat.

Another object of the invention is to i1nprove the construction of the brush which is assembled with the lid portion of the mat.

A further object of the invention is to improve the lid and the receptacle on which the lid closes, so far as the cooperation between these elements is concerned.

It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The device forming the subject matter of this application includes a box-like receptacle 1, preferably made out of metal, the bottom of the receptacle 1 being denoted by the numeral 2 and being equipped on its lower surface with a sheet 3 of rubber, felt or the like, adapted to prevent the receptacle 1 from scratching the floor on which the receptacle is placed. Rings 4: are mounted in openings 5 located in one upright wall 6 of the recepings 7 formed in a lid 8 adapted to close down on the receptacle 1. The lid 8 is made of metal and is in the form of a sheet which is thin enough so that it can be stamped readily to the desired form and configuration. The periphery of the lid 8 is con caved upwardly to form a continuous seat 9 which receives the upper edge of the receptacle 1, as will be understood clearly from Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. In the sheet metal lid 8 a plurality of spaced holes 10 are formed, the edges of the holes being bent upwardly to form burs 11 adapted to disengage the dirt, the dirt flowing through the holes 10 into the receptacle 1. The rings 4|- form pivotal connections between the lid 8 and the receptacle 1, and it will be understood that the lid may be opened to permit the dirt in the receptacle 1 to be dumped out. In Fig. 1 of the drawings, the holes 10 are shown as of circular form. They may be of any desired form, however. In Fig. 4. the holes are of oval outline, as indicated at 12, whereas in Fig. 5, the holes are shown at 1 1 as being triangular. In Fig. 6, as shown at 15, the holes are of rectangular form, and in Fig. 7, as shown at 16, the holes are diamond-shaped.

Fixed to and upstanding from the lid 8 relatively near to one edge thereof is a scraper 17 including a base flange 18 attached by securing elements 19 to the lid 8.

a Fixed to and upstanding from the lid 8 near to the outer edge thereof is an arched support 20 made of two pieces of wire twisted together, bristles 21 being engaged between the twisted portions of the pieces of wire. These bristles 21 extend along the top ofthe support 20, and downwardly along the sides thereof.- The constituent pieces of wire out of which the support 20 is made, are extended in opposite directions, in diverging relation, to form feet 22attached by securing elements'23 to the lid 8.

Uwing to the specific way in which the cleaning surface of the lid 8 is formed, by punching burs therefrom, the device may be fashioned at trifling expense and will be found. peculiarly eiiicient for the purposes intended. V

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described a boxiilie receptacle; a lid the receptae e,- haw its adjacent one Wall of'the receptacle; bristles 10 engaged with the support to forman archedbrush; and an upright scraper secured to the lid to the rear of the support.
