sppncation mea my 5, 191?. serial no. 178,675.
Be it known that l, ROBERT C. BENDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have inventedA a certain new and useful improvement in Invoice-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference behig had to the accompanying drawings,forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an invoice holder, the principal object of my invention being to provide a comparatively simple, inexpensive holder which is adapted to receive and hold in a convenient manner invoice sheets or slips such as are usually employed by business houses and particularly'those engaged in the selling and distributing of merchandise.
A further object of my invention is to provide a holder to which the invoice sheets can be easily and quickly'applied orfrom which they can be readily removed, said invoice sheets being retained upon the holder in such a manner as to permit portions of the sheets to be readily raised or folded over in order to show certain data on the lowermost invoice sheets, this provision being essential in order to facilitate the work of the bookkeeper or clerk in making out the customers statements and in checking ott the cash receipts, bills payable and the like. After being removed from the holder, the invoices are placed in suitable containers and constitute a permanent record.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and'illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front or face view of an invoice holder of my improved construction and showing an invoice sheet or slip in position thereupon;
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the rear side of the holder;
Fig. 3 is an edge view of the holder; and
Fig. d is a detail end elevation of the holder and showing portions of the invoice sheets thereupon turned upward in order to disclose the portions of the faces of the low ermost sheets.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, l0 designates the body ofmy improved holder, the same being formed of a rectangular section oir sheet of comparatively thin material such as cardboard,` andv formed in the lower portion thereof is a centrally arranged arcuate slot 11, the same being disposed so as to form an upwardly presented tongue 12.
Positioned on the front face of the eX- treme lower portion of the body 10 is-a transversely disposed strip 13 of metal, the same being secured to the bodyy l0 inany suitable manner, preferably by means of rivets ligand formed integral with the central portion of this metal strip is an upwardly projecting tongue or linger 15. This tongue or finger extends beneath a trans` versely disposed strip 16 which is formed by slotting the tongue l2 and immediately above this strip the tongue or finger is bent outwardly as designatedv by 17- and thence upwardly and the upper end of said tongue or linger is pressed inwardlyvto form a boss or projection 18 which normally bears with yielding pressure directly against the face of the body l0 or against the invoice sheet positioned thereupon.
By bending the tongue or finger .outwardly as designated by 17, the upper portionof the body of said tongue or finger is spaced apart .from the body of the holder which provision permits a number of invoice sheets to be po sitioned upon the holder without exerting any wedging action upon the tongue.
Positioned onvthe central portion of the rear face of the body 10 is a longitudinally vdisposed strip 19, preferably of meta1,",the
same acting as a stiftening device and reinforcing member for said holder, the lower end of said strip being fixed to the body of the holder by means of a staple 2O or the like, l i
which latter is seated in the central portion of strip 13. IThe upper end of this reinforcing strip 19 is secu-red tothe upper portion of body l0 by means of a rivet 2O or the like and pivotally secured to said rivet and disposed on the front face of the holder is a,
neath the rivet 20, and the lower end of this keeper is depressedto form a boss 23 which bears directly against the face of the body 10 or against the invoice sheet positioned thereupon.
Formed in the side edges of the body 10 a short distance below the top thereo'l are' notches 24e which are adapted to serve as seats for an elastic band 25 which latter can be readily applied to or removed from the holder and which can be used for retaining the side edges of the invoices flat against the holder while the latter is temporarily out of use, and liled away in a suitable holder or cabinet. i
To place an invoice sheet on my improved holder, the keep-er 21 is turned laterally and upwardly to `the position illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. l, and the upper end of the resilient tongue 15 is now engaged and pulled away from the face of the holder, which action will pull the upper portion of tongue l2 outwardly with respect to the plane occupied by the body of the holder, thus en abling the lower edge of the invoice sheet A to be inserted behind the tongue or finger and into the arcuate slot 11.
Tongue or linger 15 is now released, thereby permitting the same and the tongue 12 to resume their normal position and in so doing, the lower central portion of the invoice sheet V will be firmly gripped and held in proper position upon the face of the holder. The keeper 21 isnow swung downwardly into position over the upper edge of the invoice sheet-and thus said sheet will be conveniently held until the order covered .by
said invoice sheet is disposed of and until the proper data from said sheet are transferred to proper books or record sheets.
In the event that there are a number of invoices for one customer and which possibility is very likely to occur where a business house has a number of regular customers making several purchases per day, week or month, the additional invoices can be successively placed on the holder and when the bookkeeper or proper clerk desires to trans- 'fer the accounts on the various invoices to placed on holder vand the latter vis teinporarily out of service Aand placed in a suitl able cabinet or container, van elastic band -is slipped over thev upper portion of the body and the invoice sheets thereon, said band being seated in the notches 24e and thus the sides of the invoice sheets are held -flat upon the holder so that they will not'tend to be-J` vides an efficient and convenient time and c labor saving device for all business houses using invoice sheets and the like.
It will be readily understood that minor changesin the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved invoice holder can vbe made and substituted for those herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the
scope of which 'is set'forth in the appended claims.
I claim: f
body.
2. In a device of the class described, a body, a resilient tongue on the lower portion of the front face of said body, and there being notches formed in the side edges of said body near the upper end thereof.
