To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAxnY CnoNJn Coornn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Selma, in the county of Dallas and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Fountain Shoe-Brush, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a fountain shoe brush adapted to be seated upon the mouth of a bottle containing liquid polish.
The main object of the invention is to provide a brush which can be securely attached to the neck of a bottle.
Another object is to provide means for controlling the flow of the liquid.
Still another object is to provide a simple, cheap and eliicient structure of this character.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
One practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the device, a bottle being shown in cooperative relation therewith in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an elevation, showing a modified form of attaching the device to a bottle, a portion of the casing being broken away to show the changed form of gasket.
Referring to said drawing by numerals A cylindrical casing 1 is closed at one end by a cap 2, and the cylindrical wall of the casing is bent or flared outwardly at the open end, as indicated at 3, to conform to the curve of the shoulder of the bottle 4. The casing 1 is also provided, adjacent its open end, with an outwardly extending off set 5, which forms an annular groove in the interior of the casing in which a resilient ring 6 is seated.
An inwardly extending, annular flange 7 is secured within the casing 1, and forms a seat for a valve 8, which is secured to a Specification of Letters P atent.

To the outer on d of the stem 9 is securedacollar 10 which forms an abutment for the outer end of a coiled spring 11, which surrounds the stem 9, and the inner end of which contacts the outer face of the cap 2. A collapsible .tube 12 houses the spring 11, and extends between the cap 2 and the collar 10.
An angled rod 13 has one angled portion passing through alining apertures formed in the annular flange 7 and the cap 2, and a nut 14 is adapted to the threaded end of the rodand is operable to adjust the rod. The other angled portion of the rod 13 extends parallel with the valve 8 and is looped, as at 15, to surround the end 9 of the rod 9 which extends through and beyond the valve 8.
In the cylindrical wall of the casing 1, adjacent its closed end, an opening 16 is formed, and a discharge nozzle 17 is provided for this opening. The nozzle 17 extends within a central aperture formed in the back 18 of a brush, the bristles 19 of which are suitably secured to the back 18.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 3, the resilient ring 6 is eliminated, and the flared portion 3 of the casing 1 has an annular gasket 20 attached thereto, and positioned to lie between the portion 3 and the shoulder of the bottle 4. Rings 21, only one of which is shown, are secured at diametrically opposite points of the casing 1, and to each ring is secured a strap 22, provided with a resilient insert 23, and connected to a plate 24, which is adapted to engage the bottom of the bottle 4, and hold the casing snugly against the bottle.
In use, the neck of a bottle is forced into the open end of the casing, the annular rim expanding the ring 6 which contracts tightly about the neck when the rim has passed. The amount of opening allowed the valve 8 is regulated by turning the nut 14 to raise or lower the rod 13. Pressure applied to the collar 10, will open the valve 8 and allow the liquid polish to flow through opening 16, and discharge nozzle 17, to the brush.
In using the modified form, the neck of the bottle is inserted in the open end of the casing 1. The plate 2a is then drawn down under the bottom of the bottle 4L (the resilient inserts expanding to allow this) against which it Will be firmly held by the contraction of the resilient inserts.
Having described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A fountain shoe brush, comprising a casing, means for securing the casing to the neck of a bottle, a discharge tube projecting from the casing, a brush secured to the discharge tube, a valve seat Within the casing, a resiliently seated valve normally resting on the seat, means for unseating the valve, and a rod encircling the valve stem and adjustably secured to the casing for guiding the valve and limiting its motion.
2. A fountain shoe brush, comprising a casing, an annular flange Within the casing and forming a valve seat said flange provided with an aperture, a valve adapted to the seat, a stem for the valve and extending through the valve, an angled rod passing through the aperture in the flange and encircling the valve stem means for adjusting the rod to limit the movement of the valve, a discharge tube secured to the casing, a brush mounted on the discharge tube, and means for operating the valve.
