APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 16. I916.

' CIGARETTE-CASE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS citizen of the United States, residing at Van Bibber, in the county of Harford and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The primary ob ect of this invention is the production of a cigarette case in which both cigarettes and matches may be se: curely and safely carried, and wherein these may be rendered readily accessible when the case is opened.
In order to more fully describe my invention, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1, is a vertical sectional elevation of one specific embodiment of my invention showing the case open;
Fig. 2, a front elevation thereof;
ig. 3, an end elevation of the case closed, and
Fig. 4, a horizontal section on line 4 .4
Ely invention in the form shown, comprises, among other parts, an outer container composed of solid end pieces 1 and 2 to which is secured a preferably continuous piece of leather, leatheroid, flexible cardboard or other desired material 3, forming the front and back and a flap 4c. The back of the container extends higher than the for purposes which will more fully appear later. Slidable in this outer container is an inner member comprislng, among other parts, a corrugated cigarette tray or holder 5, having along its upper portion a flexibly connected section or flap 6 adapted to form a hinged backing for the upper portion 'of the cigarettes and provided with a finger tab 7. tray or holding member 5 has a flap 8 extending from its lower edge and adapted to lie against the face of the cigarettes when the tray is pushed down into the outer container.
On the outer face of flap 8 is an elongated match pocket 9 divided into sections by vertical partitions 10. These partitions limit the extent to which the matches may tilt sidewise and thereby prevent their heads from coming in contact with the scratching surface hereinafter described.
The matches are protected by a flap l1 flexibly attached along the upper edge of the match pocket and carrying exposed on Specification of Letters Patent.

its inner face match scratching material 12, the {ands of which extend into slots or pocke s 3.
The movement of the cigarette tray with its match flap is limited, in the outer container, in an outward direction or ribbons 14 secured at one end to the outer container near its bottom and at the other to said tray.
Also attached to the outer container near its bottom is a tape or ribbon 15 which is attached at its other end fast to the match protecting flap 11.
As previously pointed out, the back of the outer container extends higher than the front. Therefore, when the cigarette tray is pulled out to a certain point, tape 15 will -first cause the match protecting flap 11 to swin downward and expose both the mate es 'and scratching material 12, and if the tray be pulled out farther, the match carrying flap 8 will automatically open away from the cigarettes, but the latter is not necessary in order to readily take a cigarette from the tray.
The parts all readily close when the tray is pushed down into the outer container.
While I have here-shown and described but one specific embodiment of my invention, it should be understood that the same may be modified without departing from the spirit thereof.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class prising an outer container, an inner member slidable in said container and comprising two sections flexibly connected to each other at their bottoms, one of said sections having corrugations adapted to receive cigarettes and the other of said sections having match holding means and a flap adapted to extend over the matches and provided with a match scratching surface on its inner face, a tape forming a connectionbetween said inner member and said outer member for limitin the movement of said inner member as a w ole outward in said outer member, and a tape forming aconnection between said match flap and said outer member for described, comby two tapes opening said flap from the matches when moved outwardly, substantially as described. I
2. A device of the class described, coman inner member slidable in said container and comprising two sections flexibly connected to each other at their bottoms, one of said sections havprising two sections flexibly connected to ing corrugations adapted to receive ciga each other at the r bottoms, one of said secrettes and the other of said sections having tions having corrugations adapted to rematch holding means and a flap adapted to ceive cigarettes and the other of said secextend over the matches, a tape forming a tions havin match holding means and a connection between said inner member and fla adapte to extend over'the matches, and said outer member for limiting the movea tie ment of said inner member as a whole outand said outer member adapted to withdraw ward in said outer member, and a tape formsaid flap outwardly from said matches when ing a connection between said match flap said inner member is pulled in one direction, and said outer member for opening said flap substantially as described.
xible connection between said match flap from thematches when said inner member 5. A device of the class described, com- 40 is moved outwardly, substantially as deprising an outer container, a corrugated scribed. cigarette tray slidable in said container and 3. A device of the class described, comhaving a flap adapted to extend over the prising an outer container, a cigarette tray cigarettes, a match pocket carried by said slidable in said container and having a flap flap, a flap flexibly attached to said first flap adapted to extend over the cigarettes and to and adapted to cover said match pocket and be forced toward the cigarettes by frictional means to automatically open said match flap engagement with a side of the outer conas the said tray is slid outwardly in said tainer, and a flexible connection between outer container. a said flap and said outer container adapted to In testimony whereof I afiix my signature withdraw said flap outwardly from the cigain the presence of two witnesses.
