COAT-HANGER.
Specification of letters Patent.
Application filed. January 17, 1917. Serial No. 142,890.
Be it known that I, Cnannns M. KOENIG, a
I citizen of the United States, residing at Farming-dale, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Goat-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
Broadly stated, the invention aims to provide a coat hanger of improved construction,
susceptible of adjustment to accommodate itself to difi'erent size garments.
In carrying out the invention the hanger is provided with means whereby the sleeves of the garment can be supported in a manner to prevent wrinkling,
I further aim toprovide a hanger of the above mentioned character constructed from wire, whereby the device can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively small cost, however the invention resides in the construction, combination and'arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a hanger constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the sectional clamp.
In the production of a hanger constructed in accordance with my invention, use is preferably made of three separate and distinct strands of wire indicated at 10, 11 and 12 respectively. These strands are intertwisted in the manner shown, the strands 10 and 11 being intertwisted as at 13, these intertwisted portions being vertically disposed, while one terminal of the strand 1O terminates to provide a hook 14L by means of which the hanger in its entirety can be suspended from a nail or other suitable support. The opposite and corresponding extremities of the strands 10 and 11 are extended in horizontal planes and are intertwisted as at 15 with the third strand 12, the said extremities of the strands 10 and 11, and the opposite extremities of the strand 12 terminating to provide substantially U-shaped portions 16, the parallel limbs 17 of which support a clamp, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described.
Each of said clamps preferably include two sections 18 and 19 respectively, while Patented Oct. 23, 1917.
each section at opposite ends is provided with spaced pairs of grooves 20 which define openings when the respective sections of each clamp are associated. A thumb screw 21 is passedthrough suitable openings and a nut 23 when tightened upon said screw serves to hold the respective sections of the clamp associated. One pair of openings defined by the grooves 20, when the sections are associated, receive the parallel limbs 17 of the 'U-shaped portions 16, and the clamps thus supported upon said U-shaped portions. The other pair of openings of each clamp receive the spaced. parallel limbs of the 22 in the respective sections of the clamp, I
shoulder supporting members indicated at.
24. It will be noted that each of these members is formed from a single strand of wire,
shoulder supporting members can be adjusted toward and away from each other, to permit of the use of the hanger with different size garments as will be readily understood. This adjustment however is made subsequent to the loosening of the nut 23, and when the nut is tightened upon the screw 21 the component parts of the hanger are held fixed relatively intheir adjusted positions.
Loosely suspended from the outer end of the shoulder supporting member 2 1 is a yoke 25 which is suitably twisted or otherwise as sociated with the shoulder supporting member, the yokes 25 being adapted to be ar ranged within the sleeves of the garment with a view of preventing wrinkling of the latter. It is manifest, that the device constructed in accordance with the manner above described can be cheaply manufactured and sold, and that the adjustment of the shoulder supporting members can be,
quickly accomplished as the occasion may require.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I
member, the stem thereof terminating to provide ahoolr, the lateral extensions of said member terminating to provide oppositely disposed U-shaped portions, similarly-- shaped elements associated with said portionsand unitedly definingtherewith shoulder supports for the garment, said elements being, slidably, adjustable with respect. to
said U-shaped portions, and means for holding said parts fixed relatively.
2. ,r-r garment hanger comprisinga plurality of wire strands intertwisted to provide an inverted substantially T-shaped member, the stem thereof terminating to provide a hook, the lateral extensions of said member. terminating to provide oppositely disposed v U-shaped portions, similarly shaped elements disposed in juXta-position to the U-shaped portions, vand unitedly defining therewith shoulder supports for; the garment, av pair of clamping members, each member including grooved mating sections, which when associated, provide openings through certain of which openings said elements are slidable relatively to said U- a shaped portions, andsaid clamps serving to members slidably associated with said U-, shaped portions and unitedly defining therewith' shoulder supports for the garment, means forholding said members fixed in adjusted position and substantially U-shaped elements suspended from the, outerextremitiesof theshoulder supports and .capable of swinging; movement, said elements being adapted to be positioned withintthe sleeves of the garment to preventzwrinlrling thereof.
l. A garment hanger comprising a hooklilre stem, laterally disposed, extensions at one end of the stem, said extensionsterminating to provide oppositely disposed, U-
shaped portions, similarly shape-d members associated with said portions and a nitedly defining therewith shoulder supporting ele ments, and inverted substa tially U-shaped elements positioned within the sleeves Q of the garment to prevent wrinkling, saidele ments or having intermediate; 7 coiled portions encircling the outer extremities of theshoulder supports and capable, of swinging movement relative thereto, r
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
