To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS REOHTSCHAF- FEN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria- Hungary, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Waist-Belt, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved waist belt for use on trousers and other garments, and arranged to enable the wearer to readily open and close the belt and to allow of adjusting the belt with a view to draw it more or less tight around the waist to suit the convenience of the wearer.

In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a belt, made in sections, secured at their rear ends to the waistband of trousers or other garment, one of the sections having an elongated opening at the rear portion, and the other section having its rear portion narrowed and passing through the said elongated opening to allow of passing the sections around the waist in opposite directions, fastening means for attaching the free front end of one section to the waistband, and fastening means for fastening the free end of the other section to the first-named section.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The waist belt is made of two sections A and B, of which the rear end of the section A is fastened by stitches or other fastening means 0 to the exterior of the waist band D of trousers or other garments. The rear end of the other section B is connected by stitches C to the exterior of the waistband D, and the said sections are passed around the waistband in opposite directions, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 3, so that the front ends of the sections are at the front of the waistband. In

order to crossthe sections A and B the rear portion of the section A is provided with an elongated opening A, and the rear portion B of the other section B is narrowed to readily pass through the opening A, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2. By the arrangement described, the belt sections A and B readily cross each other at the back and allow of conveniently sliding one section over the other when drawing the front ends of the belt sections more or less tightly around the waistband D.

The free front end of the belt section B is adjustably and detachably connected by fastening devices G to the waistband D to one side of the median front line of the garment, the said fastening devices G being preferably of the stud and socket type. The free end of the other belt section A is detachably and adjustably connected by fastening devices H to the outer face of the other belt section B to securely hold the belt in closed position. It is understood that by providing a series of fastening devices G and H, the belt, when the latter is drawn more or less tight, can be readily fastened in place, that is, the end of the belt section B is adjustably fastened to the waistband D while the other belt section A is adjustably fastened to the belt section B, as plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 3.

In order to properly guide the back portions of the belt sections A and B at the opening A and the narrowed portion B use is made of a triple loop I attached to the waistband to accommodate the narrowed portion B of the belt section B, and the top and bottom portions of the belt section A at the opening A, as plainly indicated in Figs. 2 and 4. By the arrangement described the rear portions of the belt sections A and B are held spaced apart and guided in the triple loop I to insure an easy sliding of one belt section relative to the other. Additional back loops J are attached to the waistband D for accommodating both belt sections A and B, and side loops J and -J are attached to the waistband D to accommodate the belt sections A and B singly. In practice, the belt sections A and B are preferably made of the same material as the garment.

'Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A waist belt, comprising two belt sections secured at their rear ends to the Waistband of a garment, one of the said sections being provided at the rear portion With an elongated opening and the other section having its rear portion narrowed and passing through the said elongated opening, means for guiding the rear portions of the belt sections at said opening, fastening means detachably and adjustably connecting the free end of one belt section to the Waistband, and fastening means detachably and adjustably connecting the free end of the other belt section to the first-named belt section.
