WILLIAM c. FoGLE, or WILLIAMSBURG, KANSAS.
DISPLAY-CABINET.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, lVI-LLLmr C. FOGLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at illiain'sburg, in the county of Franl ilin and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to display cabinets, and it proposes, in brief, an improved article of that general class or type which is designed to receive a Set of cards or the like hearing value tables or other information or descriptive matter, the particular card or cards in use being visible through transparent panels.
The invention resides primarily in certain structural details of the cabinet as hereinafter set forth in the appended claim.
An embodiment of the invention is illus trated in the accompanying drawing, whereof Figure 1 IS a perspective view of the 1mproved cabinet; and Figs. 2 and 3 are vertical and horizontal sectional views taken, respectively, on lines 2-2 and 3-3, of Fig. 1.
As shown in said drawing, the cabinet consists, primarily, of a frame 1. of skeleton rectangular construction, comprising the top and bottom members 2 and 3, and the two side members 4 and The inner faces of these members are formed With pairs of longitudinal grooves or seats 6 and 7 that are arranged in spaced, parallel relation and are designed to receive the edges of the front and rear panels 8 and v9 of glass or other transparent material, the space or chamber 10 between the panels containing the cards 11. These cards, as originally stated, bear value'tables, or other information, or descriptive matter of any other character, "upon either or both of their faces, the tables or other descriptive matter upon the particular card or cards in use being visible through the afore-mentioned panels.
In order to afford ready access to the card chamber, both to insert or withdraw the cards, or certain of them, and to vary their arrangement, one of the frame members, preferably the outer or right-hand side member 4, is provided with a movable longitudinal section 12 that is hinged thereto, as indicated at 13 in Figs. 1 and 3, and is of the same length as said member. The

glass seats 6 and 7 tion, and when the latter is swung laterally outward and backward mto the position de picteid in dotted lines in Fig. 3, to the card chamber will be opened and the cards. may be manipulated or closed position, the edges of the glass panels will reenter their respective seats, this action being facilitated by forming side, and by away or bevehng the inner face of 0 all strain upon the outer side edges of the glass panels is removed, and danger of the same breaking is avoided.
Any suitable means may be provided for locking the above-mentioned movable section in closed'position, that shown being located at the top of the frame and comprising a hasp 15 hinged to the upper end of said section, and a staple l6 afiixed to the frame member 2 and engaged by said hasp, a padlock or the like, (not shown,) being connected with the staple.
Inasmuch as two transparent panels are preferably used, it is advisable to so mount the cabinet that it mav be viewed from both front and back. Also, for the same reasons, this mounting is such, by preference, that it may be swung to either side. In the con struction illustrated, the cabinet is vertically arranged, and its rear or inner side member 5 is provided with a pair of eyes 17 which are located adjacent its opposite ends and are designed for removable engagement with a pair of supporting hooks 18 set into the wall 19, or in some other suitable place.
The mode of use is, in the main, obvious, but it may be stated that after the cabinet has been lifted off its hooks, and its movable section opened, all, or as many of the cards as it is desired to use, may be inserted into the chamber 11, after which the said section is closed. and locked, and the cabinet again hung in place. In the same way, cards may be readily inserted in, or removed from the cabinet, and the order of the cards or their arrangement readily changed at any time desirable.
Having described my invention, I claim:
A display cabinet comprising, in combination, a skeleton frame embodying a plurality of connected members, one of which is provided with a movable section, said secare formed in this section and each of the remaining members being formed upon its inner face with front and rear seats arranged in spaced parallel relation; and a pair of panels, one of which is transparent, having their edges fitted in said seats, said panels providing between them a card-receiving chamber the entrance to which is opened and closed by said section, said section having its rear seat pro- 10 vided with an open side and its inner face cut away between that seat and the front seat, to remove the strain upon the corresponding edges of the panels during the movement of the section.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set 15 my hand in presence of two subscribing wit nesses.
WILLIAM C. FOGLE.
