countyof Miami and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Step-Ladders and Ironlug-Boards, of which the followmg 1s a specification, reference being had to the aocompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in lroning tables and more particularly to a combined ironing table and 1 step ladder, the object ofthe invention be ing to provide a combined ironing table and step ladder which can be quickly folded to gether to occupy minimum space, when not in use or which can be readily. set up ready for use andis espec ally constructed of metal so that the same is comparatively undes'tructible by fire or the like.
Another object of the present invention residesin the provision of an'ironing table of'the above character which will'possess advantages points of efliciency anddurability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation. 7 r
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which, I

The body of the ironing board l isconstructed of metal downwardly extendingflange 3, the lower edge of which is bent upon itself to provide ,a second flange @so that the lower edge of the flange 3 will present a smooth and Lin-u broken surface. The board 1 is provided upon the under surface thereof with a lon gitudinal bracing member 5, which is p'refe erably V-shaped in cross section and having I outwardly pro ect1ng flanges 6 which are rlveted or otherwise secured to thecentral or any othersuitable material and the longitudinaledges thereof are provided with a portion of the board 1 The board is further I provided with the curved brace members 7,
the ends -of which are secured to the longitudinalflanges of the board and the intermediate portions thereof integrally formed with the bracing member'5, as shown at 8.
The longitudinal side rails 9 of the step 1 ladder are constructed ofgmetal and are substantially .U-shaped, in cross section, the
11 of. the ladder are substantially U-shaped in cross section and constructedof metal or .any other suitable material, the ends thereof being bent downwardly, at right angles as shown zit/12, and riveted or otherwise secured to the longitudinal side rails 9. Each end ,ofthe step, when placed in position,
would be arranged between the side walls of the longitudinal side rails 9, so that they will be securely held against lateral movement. The steps 11 are suitably braced by means of thetria'ngular brackets 18, one portion of which is riveted or otherwise secured to thelongitudinalrails 9 andanother portion thereof arranged beneath the steps 11 to .securely'support' the same.
The top step of the ladder comprises a substantially rectangular plate provided with, downwardly proj ecting flanges, at each end, thereof, as shown at 15, said flanges beingJpivotally secured to the upper end of thelongitudinal side rails byomeans of the transverse rod 16, said rod having'formed integral therewith a supporting member 17. The supporting member 17 comprises the longitudinal side portions 18, the lower ends of which are bent upon themselves, as shown at'li), so that the transverse member 20 will be arranged adjacent the lower ends thereof,
said supporting member being shown in its operative position 1n Fig. 5 and when it 1s desired to use the step ladder, the supportof the ironing board is pivotally secured between the ends of the step 14 andwhen in its operative position, is supported by means of the opposed rods22. The lower ends of the rods 2:2, when in their operative position are mounted for sliding movement upon the longitudinal rods 23, the ends of which .are secured to any two of the steps 11. A collar 2A is slidably mounted upon each of the rods 23 and pivotally secured to said collar are the inner ends of the rods 22, said rods being arranged in crossed relation and the outer ends thereof being pivotally secured to the longitudinal flanges 3 and 4 formed upon the board 1. From the above, it will be seen that when the ironing board is swung to a folded posit-ion, the inner ends of the rods 22 are moved inwardly upon the rods 23, the pivot point 26 permitting the rods 22 to swing downwardly and be disposed between the board and the ladder.
When the board is swung to its inoperative position as illustrated in Fig. 1, the reduced end portion 2 of the same is arranged between and adapted to be engaged upon opposite sides thereof by the catch members 27 which are securedto the longitudinal side portions of the ladder. From this construction it will be seen that when the device is folded for use as a step ladder, the ironing board is securely held against any movement whatever. It will. also be apparent that We have provided a simple and durable combined ironing board and step ladder which, when not used,can be quickly and readily folded to occupy a minimum space.
lVhile we have shown and described the preferred form of our invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying our invention into practice, without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.
Having. thus described this invention, what is claimed is l. A device of the class described including an ironing board and a step ladder, the
top step of said ladder having pivotal con-' nection with the upper ends of the side rails of the ladder and the ironing board, downwardly projecting flanges formed at each end of said top step, a U-shaped brace member having its medial portion extending through the upper ends of the side rails of theladder, and the flanges of the top step, a transverse rod connecting the ends of said brace member, longitudinal guide rods carried by the ladder, supporting rods having one of their ends movably mounted upon said guide rods and their other ends pivotally connected to the ironing board, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A device of the class described including a step ladder and an ironing board, a top step member having down-turned flanges adapted to be arranged upon opposite sides of the ironing board and ladder, a U-shaped brace member having its intermediate por tion extending through the upper ends of the side rails and through the flanges of the top step, whereby to pivotally connect the ladder thereto, a rod extending through the ironing board and flanges to pivotally connect the ironing board thereto, said brace members supporting the step ladder in an inclined position and movable brace members adapted to support the ironing board in a horizontal position.
3. A device of the class described including an ironing board and a step ladder, means for supporting said step ladder in an inclined position, longitudinal guide rods carried by the ladder, supporting braces having their lower ends slidably mounted upon the guide-rods and their upper ends pivotally connected to the ironing board, whereby to support said ironing board in a horizontal plane.
