Description

Patented Dec. 1, 1914.
ZULU e0 0: A.
THE Nora/H. PE. H-HS Cu PHum LII/In wmmn'. .1:
FFTCE- ALBERT MALSIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LADYS GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1, 1914.
Application filed June 15, 1914. Serial No. 845,303.
T 0 all 1072 am it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT MALSIN, citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Garments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to so-called maternity garments and has for its object to provide a garment, composed of coat and skirt stitched together at about the widest part of the wearers body so as to form one piece and at the same time have the appearance of a two piece suit. Owing to this new structure, the enlarged condition of the wearer will be concealed and will not preclude her from wearing a suit.
\Vith this object in view, my invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully specified and set forth in the annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a vertical section of the new garment and Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof, with the coat part unfolded or opened.
The garment consists of a skirt a, which may be made in any desired style or fashion and which at the waist line is provided with an elastic band a to allow for enlargement during the period of pregnancy.
The coat part b may be made of two pieces, an upper part b and a lower part 11 as in the example shown, or may be made of a single piece. The coat part is stitched to the skirt at points 6 at which the width does not change during the period of preg nancy and which are located below the hips of the body of the wearer. This constitutes the very important novel feature of my new garment. By reason of the coat part being stitched at b the garment assumes the appearance of a suit or two piece dress and can be worn as such. As the upper portion er of the skirt projects upwardly into the coat, there is also the advantage that the back of that portion of the skirt, asa (indicated by dotted lines), may be made of cheaper material, and the cost of the garment thus reduced. The coat is provided with overlaps b, 6 having button holes Z1 and buttons 6 to allow of their being buttoned during enlargement of the wearer. In the example shown, the part b is stitched to the skirt at I) on a line above the stitch line b and the part b at its lower edge is folded up and stitched through the part b and the skirt a.
What I claim is:
1. A combination maternity garment, composed of a skirt having an elastic waist line and a coat, said coat and skirt being stitched together at points located below the hips of the wearers body so as to form one piece and have the appearance of a two piece suit.
2. A combination maternity garment, composed of a skirt having an elastic waistline and a coat having overlaps, said coat and skirt being stitched together at points located below the hip of the wearers body, so as to form one piece and to have the appearance of a two piece suit.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Ann STERN, W. LEVERMAN.
