The present invention relates to improvements in lubricators of the fluid pressure operated type, and in the accompanying drawing the lubricator is illustrated as a direct feed device. y I
The object of the inventionis -the provision of means for feeding oil or other lubricant under steam pressure, and to improve the construction of the feeding device and provide also an adjusting device for regulat ing and determining the quantity of lubricant fed through the lubric'ator. The invention consists 'in certain novel combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing is illus trated one complete'example of the physical embodiment of the invention constructed ac cording to the best mode so far devised for the practical application of the principles.
Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view of a lubricator involving the novel features of the invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation partly in section of the operating parts of the lubricator.
In the'preferred embodiment of the invention as illustrated the lubricator comprises the three sections 1, 2 and 3, which are made of suitable metal, preferably brass, and the body section 1 is threaded at 4 to the boss 5 of the coupling 2, while the coupling 2 is connected by threads 6 to the hemispherical cup By this construction and arrangement of the sections 1, 2, and 3, the lubricator may be assembled or dismounted with facility and despatch.
The body 1 of the lubricator is adapted to be connected to an oil chamber (not shown) by means of the threaded boss 7, and the oil pipe 8 from the chamber communicates with the horizontal oil passage 9 in the body 1, and this passage 9 communicates with a perpendicular passagelO in the body 1 and this passage 10 terminates at the end of the nozzle 11 which projects within the glass (not Specification of Letterslatent/ Application filed October 25, 1913.,- Serial No. 797,227.

At the junction of the two passages 9 and 10 in thebody 1 a valve seat 18 is provided, and this seat is opened orclosed by means iof thev valvestem, 19 which is movable in O the central opening 20. of the body section, and a similar opening 21 in the coupling section. A packing nut 22' maybe provided. in the passage 21 of the coupling member 2 to prevent the escape of steam from the recess 17. This valve stem 19 isformed integral with or is rigidly attached to a disk or piston head 23 which is formed at its under side with a post 24 threaded at 25 and having a reduced end 26 to form a shoulder 27 A diaphragm 28 of suitable flexible material and circular in shape is secured between the head 23 and a clamping nut 29 which is passed up over the post 2 1 and screwed home over the threads25 to 23. In Fig. 1 the diaphragm is shown n position secured over the circular edge 3O of the coupling member 2 by means of the flange 31 of the'cup 3, and in this position the valve stem 19 is closed against the valve seat 18 by means of a spring 32 which is located between the under side of the nut 29 and a recessed portion at the lower end of the cup 3. The reduced end 26 of the'post 2 1 is Projected into a socket portion 34 I which is continued from the interior of the cup 3, the lower portion of this socket which is formed by the extension 35 of the cup, is threaded to receive the threads of the turn plug 36.
