MEANS .FOR SEPARATING ORES.
moans.
Application filed October 7, 1913. Serial No. 793,940.
To all whom it may concern: Y
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. Hoen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carterville, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Means for Separating Ores, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for separating ores, and more particularly to a device for vibrating or shakingthe separating screen or grate over which the ores pass.
The object is to provide an improved means whereby the separating screen is v1- brated or jarred by means of suitable hammers mechanically operated when striking upon rods adapted to transmit the said v1- brations or jars to the said screen or grate.-
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and 1n the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the-invention.
In the drawings accompanying this spec fication and forming a part thereof, the preferable form of my invention is illustrated, in which Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of my improved means for vibrating and shaking the separating grate or screen. Fig. 2 is a front view in elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 is the side walls of an ore tank or receiver between which is mounted the ore separating Over the upper surface pose of this grate is to allow the finely divided ore carrying material to pass therethrough and thereby be separated from tailm s.
Tn order to facilitate and insure that the finely divided ore carrying material will pass through the grate and not clog up be tween the various grate bars, a suitable vibratory or jarring motion is transmitted to the said grate as will be hereinafter described.
A plurality of vertically extending rods 3 are provided at their lower extremities with the enlarged heads 4, the said heads 4 resting upon the grate 2. In order to properly support and hold in position the various rods 3, the upper guide plate 5 is provided which has a plurality of apertures therein through which the various rods 3 extend. The guide plate 5 is held in position by the supporting member 6 which is rigidly secured by means of the bolts 7' to the side walls 1 of the ore tank. The lower terminals of the rods 3 are held in position by means of the guide member 8. This guide member 8 is provided with a plurality of apertures therein through which the rods 8 extend. The guide member 8 is substantially U- shaped in cross section and has the upwardly extendingends 9 which are suitably held to the side Walls of the ore containing tank 1. It being noted in this connection, that .the head 4L of the rod 3 lies below and within the U-shaped portion of the guide bar 8, this construction preventing the rod 3 from bounding upward from the grate which would take place were it not for some such retaining means.
Journaled upon the upper edge of the side wallsl is the shaft 10, upon which shaft is mounted a number of hammers 11, the head 12 of which hammers are removably mounted upon the hammer arm and are adapted to be held thereto, by means of suitable set screws 18. The various hammers are suitably journaled upon the shaft 10 andare held rigidly thereto by means of the set screws 14. In this manner, the hammers are mounted adjustably upon the shaft 10 in order that they may be alined wit-h and adapted to strike the upper extremities of the rods 3, which action will give the desired vibratory or jarring motion to the grate. The hammer head 12 being adjustable upon the hammer arm 11 allows the head to be adjusted so as to contact with the upper extremity of the rod. In order to suitably rotate the shaft 10 through approximately 45, a sector 15 is rigidly mounted upon the shaft 10, and is provided with a chain engaging face 16. Secured to the sector 15 is the chain 17, the remote end of which is connected to an eccentric 18 mounted upon and actuated by the shaft 19. From the foregoing, it will be apparent that upon rotating the shaft 19, the shaft 10' will be rotated in a forward and reverse direction for approximately 45 which will raise and lower the hammers 11 and thereby hit the upper extremities of the rods 3.
In the practical operation of my improved device a suitable amount of ore containing material is placed upon the upper surface or" the grate 2. The shaft 19 is now rotated at a somewhat limited speed which will by reason of the eccentric and chain attached thereto oscillate the shaft 10 to which the hammers are securely fastened. The oscillation of the shaft l0 will act to raise the hammers and lower them and thereby let them pound upon the upper extremities of the rods 3, which rods are adapted to transmit and impart a vibratory movement or jarring to the grate which will insure that the finely divided ore carrying substance will be shaken loose from the ore carrying material and will pass readily downwardly and through the grate or screen 2. This vibratory or arring movement prevents the grate or screen from becoming clogged and insures a successful and efficient separation of the ore.
Having thus described the construction and operation of my improved device what I claim to be new and original with me is 1. An ore separator comprising a grate, a plurality of rods extending substantially perpendicular thereto with heads at one extremity, the said head resting upon the said grate, spaced guides slidably engaging and holding in position the said rods, the lower guide substantially U'shaped in cross section and housing the upper portions of the rod heads therein, and means for pounding the rods to vibrate the said grate.
2. An ore separator comprising a horizontally extending grate, a plurality of vertically extending rods with enlarged heads at their lower extremities, the said heads resting upon the said grate, spaced guides slidably engaging and holding in a vertical position the said rods, the said lower guide U-shaped in cross section and housing the upper portions of the rod heads therein, and means for pounding the said rods to vibrate the said grate.
S. An ore separator comprising a horizontally extending grate, a plurality of vertically extending rods with enlarged heads at their lower extremities, the said heads resting upon the said grate, spaced guides slidably engaging and holding in a vertical position the said rods, the said lower guide U-shaped in cross section and housing the upper portions of said rod heads therein and holding the said heads with the longitudinal axes thereof extending at right angles to the longitudinal axes of the grate bars, and means for vibrating and agitating the said rods.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
