Description
RUFUs D. BRANDY, oF ANACONDA, MONTANA.
SHADE-BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. i, 191e.
Application filed February 18, 1916. Serial No. 79,190.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that'I, RUFUS D. BRADDY, a citizen of the -United States, residing at Anaconda, in the county of Deerlodge and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
Broadly stated, this invention contemplates the provision of means for hanging window shades and curtains without the use of nails, screws or the like, thereby avoiding damage to the window casing byuse of such elements.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood, when the following description isl read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the novel combination, construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the application of the device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. F ig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail View of one of the clamps. Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the shade brackets.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 10 indicates a curtain pole, which may be constructed of any suitable material and of any desired length, and upon which the lace curtain is adapted to be secured in any suitable manner.
In carrying out my invention use is made of the clamps generally indicated at A, one of these clamps being arranged at each side of the window casing B as shown. Each of these clamps preferably consists of relatively movable companion members 11 provided at one end with a suitable opening for the re ception of the pole 10, and upon which the said members are mounted for longitudinal l. adjustment thereon. The members 11 are fixed relatively to the pole, in any adjusted position by means of the set screws 12 carried by the respective members and adapted to engage the pole 10. The opposite ends of the members terminate to provide the lugs 13 disposed in confronting relation and adapted to engage the opposite sides of the window casing B in the manner shown in the drawing, for the purpose of properly supporting the pole 10. Each of thelugs 13 is provided with a rubber foot 14, but this member may be constructed from leather or other suitable material to obviate each clamp, and threadedly associated with the other of said members, is a thumb screw 15 by means of which the members are adjustedrelati'vely' and 'held in gripping relavtion upon the window casing as illustrated.
By reason of the fact that the clamps in their entirety are adjustable longitudinally of the pole 10, it is manifest that the entire device may accommodate itself to windows of varying widths.
In connection with the construction hereinabove described -I employ window shade brackets 16 pivotally mounted upon the pole 10, and preferably positioned between the members 11 of each clamp. The body portion of the bracket is formed to provide a lateral extension 17 to the free end of which a pad 18 of any suitable material is secured to prevent marring of the window casing,
.it of course being understood that when the brackets are operatively positioned the eX- tension 18 bears against the window casing at a point immediately beneath the clamps A, thereby relieving the latter of undue strain under the weight of the various parts supported thereby. The brackets 16 are also adapted to be held in fixed position with relation to the pole by means of set screws 19, and are provided with suitable openings 20 for the reception of the opposite ends of the shade roller. By reason of the fact that brackets are positioned between the respective members of the clamps, itis manifest that by merely loosening the set screws 12 and 19 the clamp and its associated bracket may be adjusted as a unit longitudinally upon the pole 10 to accommodate windows of varying widths.
It is to be borne in mind that the device herein shown and described is merely illustrative of one embodiment of the invention, i
to which I do not limit myself, and that gitudinal adjustment thereon, and means for holding the member fixed relatively to the pole.
2. A combined curtain and window shade hanger comprising a curtain pole, a clamp comprising pairs of members mounted upon the pole and adapted to clamp on the window casing, means connecting said members and operable to adjust the latter into clamping relation, means for holding said mem bers xed relatively to the pole, a curtain shade bracket freely pivoted upon the pole and adapted to bear against the window oasing, and means for holding said bracket fixed in its adjusted position.
3. A combined Curtain and window shade hanger comprising a curtain pole, companion relatively movable clamping members Copies of this patent may be obtained for mounted upon the pole for longitudinal adjustment and adapted to be clamped on the window casing, means for holding said members in gripping relation, a curtain shade bracket pivotally associated with the pole and fitted between said members for adjust ment therewith longitudinally of said pole, said bracket being adapted to bear against said window casing immediately beneath said clamps, and means `for holding said bracket fixed relatively to said pole.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
