Description

L. W. ANDERSEN.
FIXTURE CHAIN. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 3,1915- K v 1 ,1 87, 1 22 Patented June 13, 1916.
WITNESSES: F #yrE/vTOR v E0072 )i fi rdzr senx FIXTURE-CHAIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1916.
Application filed February 3, 1915. Serial No. 5,920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAURITZ W. Anora- SEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven the center of said chain from end to end, I
thereby avoiding the threading of said cable or conductor in and out of the links as commonly practised and which in some instances has a tendency to distort the straight line of the chain sufiiciently to render the looks thereof objectionable.
With this and certain other objects in view the invention consists in certain novelties of construction and arrangement as will be more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view showing one application of my invention. Fig. 2, is
a perspective view of two united links constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 3, is a vertical section taken through two connected links, and, Fig. 4, is a detail view of a single link before connecting the ends together.
In the practical embodiment of my invention I construct each link from a single piece of sheet metal the blank being cut and shaped in any desired form and with any desired ornamentation. At the center of the blank is produced an opening A, and adjacent each end is produced an opening B. The sheet metal blank is bent to form the link and when so formed has the side members C, the central end portion D, and the end E, which is formed by the overlapping apertured ends of the blank, these ends being secured together, the apertures B being brought into alinement with each other and also with the aperture 01 opening A, in the 7 end D.
In connecting the overlapping ends of the blank a portion of the metal of the inner end is carried through the openings and rolled over or headed up upon the outer overlapping end, this securely connecting the overlapping ends togetherand at the same time providing a smooth opening through which the cable or conductor may be passed from end to end of the chain it being understood that when the links are properly assembled all of the apertures will be in alinement so that thesaid cable or con ductor can be easily passed therethrough and remain therein without distorting the chain at one or more points.
In practice the opening A, has its edges rolled over to provide a smooth opening and also reinforce the link at that point. The sides 0, can be parallel 'or they can be curved, and can be ornamental or plain as preferred, and this ornamentation can re: side either in contour or surface ornamentation, or both.
This construction of link also readily lends itself to connection with the fixtures through the medium of a yoke or loop F, the nipple F, of such loop being passed through the opening in the end of link and secured by means of a nut G.
From the drawing and description it will be seen that I provide a fixture chain which accomplishes all of the objects hereinbefore referred to.
What I claim is:
1. A chain consisting of a plurality of links, each link being formed from a single piece of sheet metal, the ends of the link overlapping, said overlapping ends having aperturesv alining with each other when the overlapping ends areconnected to provide the finished link, the opposite end of the link having an opening which .alines with the opening at the lapped end of the link.
2. A fixture chain consisting of a plurality of links, each link formed of a single piece of metal and comprising side members and end members, the end members overlapping and having apertures which aline with each other, the apertures of one link being adapted to aline with the apertures of adj acent links thereby providing a central passage for a cable or conductor.
3. A fixture chain consisting of a plualinement the edge of the aperture of one rality of links connected together, each link also apertured, the edges of said aperture formed from a single piece of metal the ends being turned over upon the opposite side 1 of Which are overlapped and apertured, the as set forth. apertures of said overlapped ends being in LAURITZ W ANDERSEN Witnesses:

end portion being passed through and rolled over theedges of the aperture, of the opposing end the opposite end of the link being Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressingthe "Commissioner of Eatents. Washington, D. C.
