JOHN VERCELLINO, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMALJ.
TAPE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4:, 1916.
Application filed February 13, 1915. Serial No. 8,066.
citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma city. in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tape-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to tape holders, and more particularly to the class of adhesive tape feeders and moisteners.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this characterwherein a roll of tape having adhesive substance on one side only is rotatably supported so that the tape can be drawn out to any desired length, and the gummed side thereof supplied with moisture, the required length or stretch of the tape being severed after the wetting of its gummed side for use in sealing packages or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the construction thereof is of novel form to permit any length of tape to be freely fed therefrom and simultaneously the gummed side thereof moistened so that the length of tape when severed may be used for any purpose desired.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view looking toward its opposite side. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4c is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line ti of Fig, 1; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 3.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device comprises a base 5 having integral therewith a reel holder in the form of a disk 6 which rises vertically from the base and is provided for a portion of its periphery with a rim or flange 7 while spaced from the said disk 6 and formed with the base 5'is a water reservoir or cup 8, the front wall of which is provided with a guide slot 9 through which is adapted to pass the adhesive tape to bring its gummed side in contact with a moistening pad 10 within the reservoir 8 for the wetting of the gummed side of the said tape,
whereby any length severed therefrom can be used for sealing packages or the like.
' The tape is wound on a reel 12 which is detachable upon a stud axle 13 mounted centrally in the disk 6 and carrying a retaining nut 14: for the reel 12 when mounted thereon, the tape 11 being unwound from the reel through the cut away portion 15 in the flange or rim 7 to travel over the pad 10 for the moistening of its gummed side.
Carried on the front wall of the reservior 8 above the slot 9 is a right angular outwardly projecting cutting blade 16 which serves to sever the tape when brought in contact therewith, and by slightly pulling laterally upon the tape, thus it being seen that any required length of tape can be cut from the roll for use, and during the unwinding of the tape while passing over the V pad the gummed side will become moistened for the sticking of the tape on a package or the like for the sealing thereof.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been 7 omitted.
' What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a base having integral therewith a reel holder, a water reservoir on the base forwardly of the reel holder and having a vertically slotted partition dividing the reservoir into two chambers, the front wall of the reservoir being vertically extended and having a lip at its upper end at right angles thereto to form a cutting blade, the said extended wall being formed with a slot adapted to receive the tape from a reel when placed in the holder, and absorbent pads arranged within the chamber next to the extended Wall and terminating substantially flush with the slot in the said extended Wall to project into the path of the tape when trained therethrough.
