To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLARENCE F. TRUE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Kitchens, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to vehicles designed for the purpose of conveying, storing and preparing fcod, such as Commissary wagons used by armies in the field, and its objects are, among others, to provide a device of this character of simple, strong and durable construction which may be used for cooking, conveying and refrigerating food, provided with parts which may be converted into tables when the food is to be served, and to so construct and arrange the various parts of the device that they will cooperate and coordinate with one another to bring about a maximum of convenience and eiiiciency, together with the greatest compactness and pcrtableness.

The invention consists of the construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of an army field kitchen embodying the improvements; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line '22 of Fig. 1 looking in the directions indicated by the arrows.

The wagon forming a part of the field kitchen consists of a body A mounted by means of suitable spring trucks B B C C. Upon this body is mounted a hood-frame composed of longitudinal strips D and D cross-strips D and D the latter formed of the same strips of which the uprights D supporting the hood are formed. The hood frame extends over the drivers seat at the front of the wagon and is provided with a waterproof cover D of canvas or other suitable material.

At'the rear the hood is provided with an extension consisting of the rectangular frame E, hinged to the hood-frame at E and a flexible cover E supported thereby and de- This extension may be lowered by breaking the elbow joint E of the brace rod E, which normally holds it in its upper and extended position, and when this is dcne the cover E may be rolled up. The Sides of the main hood cover may also be rolled up as shown at D.

The hood is provided with an annulus F having a depending collar F and supported by a bracket F fixed to the hood frame. for the purpose of receiving and supporting the chimney F of the cooking stove G. A collar F secured to the hood frame supports is also provided at about mid-height of thechimney.

The range G'm'ay be "of any suitable construction, and is provided with a water heater H at the back of the tire pot and communicating with the hot water tank H at the rear. Above this hot water tank are mounted tireless cookers J composed of casings provided with non-heat conduct ng walls J and a hinged door J Within these casings are metallic food receptacles J mounted on casters J At the forward part of the wagon is lodated a refrigerator 1, and between the said refrigerator and the tireless cookers is a space which may be used for the storage and transportation of various articles. Beneath the drivers foot rest K is a compartment K, provided with a hinged door K which may also be used for the storage of supplies.

The side-boards L of the wagon are removable and are provided with strips L bearing sockets L adapted to receive the legs L shown stored in the compartment M beneath the wagon body. In this manner the boards may be removed and used for a table. Tables N are also carried by the cookers and the refrigerator, the table top in each instance forming a cover for the said device and being held in position by the depending portions N. The legs N of these tables are hinged and are adapted to be folded between the table-top and the top of the refrigerator or cooker as the case may be, and in this positi n the rectangular leg tops N provide a firm base. These tables not only protect the said devices from the weather and the influence of-the atmosphere, but provide seats for those detailed to'the care of the kitchen.

1. In a device of the character described, wagon body and wheels upon which thesame is-mountedto travel, of compartments'mounted thereon and adapted to receive and hold food and provisions, one of'said compartments being provided with a removable receptacle and non-heat conductingwalls, a heating device mounted exterior to the wagon body in proximity to said compartment and the said compartment having a doorthrough which the removable receptacle may be passed to a the said heating device adjacent thereto.
