and mounted upon said balls-is the pastepot or box 5 which has grooves 6 along itsends so that it is movably supportedfupon the balls in` a manner which will be clear. Said paste box (best seen in Figs. 7, 8 and 9) has its front wall 7 vertical, its bottom 8 flat, and its rear wall 9 curved upward as shown in Fig. 9, and mounted on the upper edge thereof is a scraper 10 having asharp or knife edge 11 projecting forward toward the paste roller l2 so as to remove therefrom the surplus paste. This scraper bar is slotted as seen at 13, and screws 14 engaging said slots pass into the upper edges 'of the ends of said box so as to permit the adjustment of said bar. The trunn'ions of the paste roll are mounted in bearings 15 in the ends of the box, and one of them carries a gear wheel 16 and beyond that a sprocket wheel 17 connected by a chain 18 with a' second sprocket wheel 19011 a stub shaft 20 mounted in the frame and revolved by the pulley 21 from any suitable source. The
construction is such that, although -the .paste box may be moved backward and forward upon the brackets, the chain connection between the driving and driven sprockets causes the paste rollv to rotate constantly in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 4, so that paste is carried up. on itsf. ascending side, the surplus is scraped off by the scraper. The constant revoiution of lthe roll preventsthe paste from hardening thereon.
Beneaththe curved inner wall of the box is a cross bar 21 having an eye 22 to which is loosely connected one end of a rod 23 whose other end lis attached to a lever 25 (see Fig. 2), there being preferabl f a turn buckle 24 inserted within the lengt of this rod so `that by manipulating the lever 25' the entire paste box and its roll can be set forward or backward fora purpose to appear below, but the rotation of the paste roll will not be interrupted. Notehes 26A and 27 are provided in the framework 1, to be engaged by the lever 25 in its respective positions as seen in Fig. 2. When the lever isswung rearward the paste box and its roller will stand as seen in Figs. 4 and 5 and the single-faced strip S will be directed between the brackets 2, around the curved rear fwall 9 of the box '5, and beneathk a presser vroller 28 mounted in bearings 29 on the framework and the paste roller 5- it being my intention thatthe setting of the lever 25 andadjustment of the turn buckle 24 shall bring the paste box and its' roller sufficiently near the presser roller 28 to permit the single faced paper to pass between said rollers without being crushed and yet to cause the ribs of the corrugated paper to be borne against the ascending side ofthe paste roller with just suiiicient force to take the paste therefrom. Thus much of my machine constitutes what may be called the pastingA mechanism.
- The heating mechanism next to be described coperates with the pasting mechanism in the application of the face strip to the single-faced corrugated paper, and together these two mechanisms make up the attaching means above referred to.

The numeral 37 designates a fixed ironing tube also carried by said brackets thence over the drum 30. where it is heated on its lower side, thence between said drum andthe tube 37 and beneath the latter where it is heated on its upper side, and by this tube it is applied to the ridges of the singlefaced corrugated paper -at a point where the stock and the facingjsheetpass between said tube and the pr sser roll 28 as best seen in Fig. 5. Thus -t e pasting means cooperates with the heating mechanism to attach the facing strip to the single-faced corrugated paper just at a time when said strip has been heated on both its under and upper sides and finally ironed out where it passes' beneath the tube, so that itis applied to the stock in a perfectly flat condition and whileit is hot or heated on its under surface and adheres to the pasted corrugated strip quickly and permanently. It willybe observed that the drum 30 rotates and therefore draws the paper ofi the roll 39' and heats the same on its lower face as it passes over said drum, but the tube 37. is stationary and therefore the paper slips beneath it and is ironed while it is heated on its upper face and applied to the stock. In a machine of the'class described, the combin tion with a paste box movably mounte on a support, a constantlydriven roll mounted in said box and dip ing into the paste, a presser roll with w ich said. paste roll ,co-acts iny one position of the box, and a feed roll rotating in fixed relation to said presser roll; of gears on the trunnions of the paste roll 'and feed roll intermeshing when the former stands adjacent the presser roll, and means for moving said box to throw the gears out of mesh.
6. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a presser roll, a paste box, a power-driven paste roll rotating constantly in the paste, feed mechanism 'for a strip to be pasted rotating in fixed relation to said presser roll, and severable connections between the paste roll and feed mechanism; of the drying mechanism, a source of power for driving the same, a clutch b etween the drying mechanism and its source of power, and controlling mechanism for si-` multaneously openingsaid clutch 'and scvering said connections.
7. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a presser roll, and a pasting mechanism including a box and a paste roll means for rotating said roll constantly in said box and'said box and roll adapted to be moved toward or from said presser roll; of two coacting belts having parallel' runs adapted to receive the material from the presser roll between them, connections between said `belts and a source of power, a clutch in said connections for connecting and disconnecting the source belts, a lever, and rods connecting it with the clutch and of these elements may be simultaneously controlled.

In a machineof the class described, the combination' with a pair of spaced brackets between which the stock is fed; of a paste .box rpovably mounted on said brackets and having a curved rear wall forming a guide around which the lstock passes, a paste roll rotating constantlyin said box, means for constantly rotating the same, a relatively fixed presser roll between which and the paste roll the stock passes, a cross bar on said box below its curved wall,
an ironing means co-facting brackets toward and an eye on said bar, a controlling lever, and
a rod connecting the same with said eye.
12. In a machine for corrugating paper, a
presser roller and means coperating there' with to attach a facing strip to a corrugated strip, means for receiving the corrugated board so formed and drawing it retween said presser roller and coperating power means for driving said receiving and drawing means, a clutch between' said power means and receiving and drawing means, a
clutch shifter, a paste roll, a paste box'in which said roll dips and which is adapted to be reciprocatd by means common thereto and to said clutch shifter whereby said paste roll is continuously driven irrespective of the position of the clutch.

In a device of the class described. pressure means, rotary means for feeding a lining strip thereto, means `for feeding a corrugated strip to said pressure means, a pastetank, a paste roll journaled therein and dippin in the paste, means for moving the tank tolilringfthe paste roll into and out of the'path of the corrugated. strip, conlos stantly rotating means connected to the paste roll to drive the same irrespective of its position and gears on the paste roll and lining strip feeding means respectively whereby when the paste roll is in position to engage the corrugated strip said gears are in engagement and the paste roll drives the said feeding means and when the paste roll is out of position to engage the corru gated strip said gears are out of engagement.
25. In a machine for facing corrugated paper, a presser roller and ironing means coperating therewith between which the facing and corrugated strips are fed, power means for driving one of said members, a
`clutch lbetween said driving means and pressure rollers, driving means for the lagging, a clutch between the driving means and lagging, a paste box movable toward and from one of the pressure rollers, a paste rollin said box adapted to be brou ht into and out of the path of one of the s eets to be united, means for moving the paste box, a manually operated means for moving the paste box and for shifting the clutch.
27. A machine of the class described, a
pair of pressure rollers, lagging arranged Vto receive the finished productl from the pressure rollers, driving means for the lagging, a clutch between the driving means and the lagging, a paste box, a paste roll adapted to be brought into and out of the path of one of the sheets to be united, manually operated means for moving the paste roll and for shifting the clutch.
