ALDEN W. GALLUP AND DANIEL KELLEHEB, 0F SANDUSK'Y, OHIO, ASSIGNORS TO THE HINDE & DAUCH PAPER COMPANY, OF SANDUSKY, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
WVRAPPER-PACKAGE AND METHOD OF FORMING- THE SAME.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALDEN W. GALLUP and DANIEL KELLEHER, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrapper-Packages and Methods of Forming the Same, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing The invention relates to the method of manufacturing and packaging bottle wrappers, and comprises the novel features as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan of a strip from which the wrappers are formed; Fig. 2 illustrates the manner of folding the strip to form a package; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through a portion of the package showing the alternate arrangement of the wrappers therein.
A is a continuous tube formed from a paper strip having its edge seamed together at B. C and C are cuts formed from opposite edges ofthe strip partially severing the same into lengths for the individual wrappers and forming gores or flaps D which are folded and secured to the body by an adhesive. The portionE between the cuts C and C is also preferably weakened by perforation or otherwise. The strip thus formed is folded in a zigzag manner, as indicated in Fig. 2, the folds being in line with the cuts along the perforated sections, and the zigzag arrangement bringing the folded gores of the adjacent wrappers at opposite ends of the package. This permits of forming a symmetrical package, and one in which the wrappers are stored within minimum space limits.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 1916.
Application filed July 15, 1815. I Serial N0. 39,948.
In use, the package when opened permits of successively separating the individual wrappers therefrom by tearing across the weakened section. Thus a package formed in the manner described is advantageous both for convenience in manufacturing and shipment, and also when the wrappers are being used.
What we claim as our invention is 1. The method of forming and packaging wrappers, comprising the formation of a continuous tubular strip, partly. severing said strip to form individual wrappers, and folding said strip in zigzag form, the folds being in alinement with the partly severed sections.
2. The method of forming and packaging wrappers, comprising the formation of a continuous tubular-strip, reducing the width of said strip at intervals by giving portions of the strip a tapering form,'and folding said strip in a zig-zag manner at the points of reduced width.
3. A package, comprising a continuous tubular strip partially severed and folded to form tapering individual wrappers, and also folded at the lines of severance in a zigzag manner to form the package.
4-. A package, comprising a continuous fiat tubular strip having opposite edge portions folded back .at intervals reducing the width of the strip, the strip being folded at the points of reduced width to form a package.
In testimony whereof we afliX our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
