To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY F. WANA- MAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in VindowdPlatforms, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to window platforms, and it has for its object to produce a platform scaffold of simple and improved construction which may be readily applied to an ordinary window frame where it will be held securely in position to support a workman, such as a painter, window cleaner or the like while doing outside work.

A further object of the invention is to produce a device of the class described which may be conveniently and effectively adjusted so as to operate successfully in all cases without regard to the thickness of the walls.

A further object of the invention is to produce a device of the class described which will be simple, light, and of such a nature that it may be readily transported and stored, as may be required.

With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modification within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved window platform or scaffold. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, showing also in section a portion of the wall of a building to which the device is applied. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2, the scaffold or platform being shown in side elevation and the wall in section. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the device detached.

Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.

In the construction of the improved device there is employed an approximately U- Specification of Letters Patent.

shaped frame A made of iron or steel and of a width preferably not exceeding that of an ordinary moderately narrow window frame, although, of course, the dimensions may be varied to suit. The outer end of the frame, which is that including the bridge piece 15, supports a floor or platform 16. This platform is secured in position by means of the limbs 17 of a plurality of U-shaped railings B, said limbs being extended through the platform and the frame and provided with collars 18 that abut on the top face of the platform so as to limit the downward movement of the limbs 17. The limbs 17 also extend through a brace member C which is juxtaposed to the lower face of the frame A and which includes a bridge member 19 and obliquely disposed braces 20 having terminal lugs 21 adapted to abut exteriorly on the wall of the building to which the device is applied. Some of the limbs 17 of the railings B extend through the bridge portion of the brace C, and others of said limbs extend through the inclined braces 20, as clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 3, said last mentioned limbs being provided with spacing sleeves 22 interposed between the frame A and the braces 20. The lower ends of the several limbs are provided with nuts 23 by tightening which the parts will be securely assembled. The limbs 17 that extend through the braces 20 are provided with washers 24 having oblique faces engaging the braces 20 and fiat faces against which the nuts 23 may be tightened.

The limbs 25 of the frame A are provided with upstanding brackets 26 through which adjusting screws 27 are threaded, said screws being provided with handles 28 whereby they may be readily manipulated. A follower 29 consisting of a bar of wood or other material is slidably supported on the limbs 25 in advance of the screws 27.

In operation, that end of the frame A which supports the platform 16 and related parts is projected through a window casing and supported on the sill, as seen in Fig. 8, the lugs 21 at the ends of the braces 20 abutting exteriorly on the wall below the sill. The follower 29 is now placed in position, and the screws 27 are operated to move the follower up tightly against the inner side of the window frame, thereby holding the device firmly in position and enabling the workman to be supported safely on the platform.

As'will be seen from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawing, the improved device is simple in construction, as Well as light and easy of maniplation. It may be manufactured at a moderate expense and will be found thoroughly useful for the purposes for which it is provided.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is

1. A device of the class described comprising a U-shaped frame, a platformsupported on the upper face thereof, a brace member abutting on the lower face thereof, said brace member having a bridge portion and obliquely disposed limbs or brace members, and assembling means comprising a plurality of railings having limbs extending through the platform, the frame and the brace member, said limbs having collars abutting on the upper face of the platform, and tightening means applied to the lower extremities of the limbs of said railings.

2. A device of the class described comprising a U-shaped frame, a platform supported on the upper face thereof, a brace member abutting on the under face thereof, said brace member having a bridge portion and obliquely disposed limbs or brace members, and assembling means comprising a plurality of railings having limbs extendshaped frame, a brace member engaging the underside thereof and including a bridge portion, and obliquely disposed limbs having terminal lugs, a platform mounted on the frame, brackets extending upwardly from thelimbs of the frame, adjusting screws threaded through said brackets, and a follower engaged by said screws.
