TABLET FOR A PLURALITY OF TABLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 4, 1916.
Application led June 24, 1914. Serial No. 846,996.
To all 'zc/1,0m t may concer/n Be it known that I, JAMEs B. Gnirrix, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State. of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tablets for a Pluralitv of Tables, of Vwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a tablet for variable tables and consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claimsA The object of the invention is to provide a tablet for varying tables in convenient form and of Wide range of variation and of such chcapness of construction as to permit of its renewal.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the tablet. Fig. 2 an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 a rear elevation of the tablet.
1 marks an inclosing envelop and 2 a card of tables. The card 2 approximates in cross section the size of the envelop and slides in and out of the envelop, the envelop forming an inclosure for the card when not in use. A series of openings 3, 4 and 5 are arranged across and near one end of the envelop. These openings have designations arranged adjacent to them on the face of the envelop. The table as shown is designed with reference to figuring the price of sheet steel. The slot 3 has the designation 6 as to the thickness of the steel. Immediately under the slot 3 there is a space 7 with the designation 8 base price in coils. It is intended that the amount set in the space 7 may be varied, the tables on the card 2 except for Wide ranges in base price being applicable. A designation 9 for extras for thickness is opposite the space 4. The designation for extras for soft steel is also opposite the space 4. Designations 11, 12 and 13 for extras for various Widths are arranged on the envelop opposite the opening 5.
The card 2 has a series of columns of figures, the figures in certain columns which are correlated being adapted to be brought simultaneously to the openings 3, 4 and 5, and when brought to these openings the tables on the card correspond to the designations opposite the openings, thus there are a series of designations 14 as to gage or thickness corresponding to the designations 6 and as the card is drawn in and out the numerals indicating differentthicknesses are brought into the opening 3. At the same time, the tables corresponding to the designations opposite the openings 4 and 5 arebrought into the openings 4 and 5, these tables in the column brought into the openings 4 and 5 correlating with the thickness designated at 14. Thus there are a series of designations 15 indicating the added price for thickness corresponding to the gage 14, a designated price 1G for soft steel, designated extras 17, 18 and 19 for the varying Widths 11, 12 and 13 as designated.
In the operation of the tablet, the card 2 is drawn out to bring the proper designated gage to the opening 3. This same movement will bring the designations of extras for thickness, quality and widths to the openings 4 and 5. The base price as indicated on the space 7 is then footed With the extras which are desired. For instance, if a gage as shown of .31 is desired, the extra cost over the base price for this particular gage is thirty-five cents which' added to the three dollars arranged in the space 7 indicates the cost per hundred for this gage. If soft steel is Wanted, this would be footed with the base price and the extra for the thickness of this gage. If different Widths are wanted, they would be footed in or left out depending Whether this is included. In this Way any ordinary commercial size or gage can, in this simple tablet adapted to be carried in the pocket, be immediately footed and it has a wide range because the card 2 may be covered with tables so as to be drawn out and moved in as desired. Vhen not in use, the envelop forms a protecting cover for the card. The cheapness of the device permits of the use of the envelop for advertising matter as indicated on the face of the envelop.
The reverse side of the envelop has an opening 20. On the reverse side any series of tables may be used. As shown, there is a table giving the Weights per lineal foot for different gages and different Widths. There are designating columns under various gages, the gage being designated at 21 and the Weights for this gage being tabulated at 22. Arranged on the envelop is a designation 24, Width, which comes opposite the designation 21 on the card. The table of Widths 23 is arranged under the designation and these come opposite the elements of the table so as to give the proper Weights for `the widths.
That l claim as new is l. ln a tablet for a plurality of tables, the combination of a cover sheet having designation thereon indicating a base price and an opening adjacent to said designations for revealing variations in the article and corresponding variations in price and a card ymined by a correlation ott the base price With the article and the corresponding variation in price.
2. ,In a tablet for a plurality of tables, the combination of an inclosing envelop having an openingacrcss the envelop and having a designation thereon adjacent to the opening indicatinga base price, said opening revealing variations in the article and variations in Aprice corresponding thereto correlating with the base price and a card arranged to slide in and out or the envelop and havinga series o1q tables thereon adapted to lbe brought into and out ot the opening, the correlating elements of the tables being adapted to be brought into View simultane ously and comprising indicia as to varia- .f'
tions in the article and indicia as to corresponding variations in price correlating with the base price on the envelop, whereby variations in price may be readily computed by correlating the variations brought to view with the base price.
3. n a tabletfor a plurality of tables, the combination an inclosing envelop having a series of openings across the envelop; a space between two ot' the openings having a designation indicating a base price, said openings being adapted to reveal indicia indicating a variation in an article and indicia indicating a variation in price correspending to such variation in the article, the base price and variation in price being brought into alineinent When the Yarie-.tion in price is brought to vievv; and a card arranged to slide in and out of the envelop and l wing a series of tables thereon adapted to be brought into and out of the openings, the correlated elements of the tables being adapted to be brought into view siniultane ously and comprising indicia as to variations in the article and corresponding indicia a s to variations in price whereby as the variations in the article are brought to vievv the price tables are brought into alinelnent :for footing the price corresponding thereto.
rln testimony whereof l have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
