JAOOB B. KOOK AND JOHN S. SHRAWDER, OF FAIRVIEWVILLE, PA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-HOOK ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,067, dated June 20, 1871.
art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved tracehook, which is attached to the end of a trace by wings or leaves which embrace the same,
and provided with a transverse stud for connectin g it with a ring for the breech-strap, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view (partlyin section) of a tracehook constructed and attached according to our invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view looking down from the sectional line a: w of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. 7
A represents "the trace-hook complete. B is the trace. O 0 represent pieces of foil or noncorrosive metal between the leaves D Dof the hook and the trace. E is the breeching-ring stud. F is the ring. The hook is attached to the trace by means of screws or rivets passing through the leaves and trace, as represented. On each side of the trace, beneath the leaves D D, is placed a piece of tin or other foil, 0. These hooks are made of malleable iron, which soon rust or corrode by exposure in wet and damp weather, which causes the leather to decay. The intervening plates or pieces of noncorrosive metal prevent this or preserve the leather. The stud E is cast with the leaves D D, and the ring F may be set in the sand-mold and be thus connected with the hook when the latter is cast, or it may be welded or otherwise attached. The hook proper, G, is made strong at the bend, as seen in the drawing.
By constructing the hook and attaching it to the trace, as shown and described, the whole arrangement is made strong, convenient, and durable.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an article of manufacture, the trace-hook herein described, formed of the body A G, leaves D D, stud E, and loop or ring F, constructed and arranged as shown and described.
