specification of Letters Patent.
Patented oet. 12,1915."
Application filed March-12, 1,915. Serial No. 14,005.
T 0 all whom it 71mg/ concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. VETTER,
,a citizen of the VUnited States, residing at thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which formpart of this specification.
This invention relates to containers for,
articles of merchandise, and more larly to button containers -The objects of the invention are ,to provide a simple, efficientl and inexpensive container especially adapted for conveniently holding cards of buttons of different sizes and displaying the different sizes on cards attached to the front of the container in such manner that they are exposed to view and are adapted to be quickly andI easily removed and replaced when desired.
The invention will first -lne hereinafter more particularly described,-with reference to the accompanying'drawings, which form a part of this specification, and then pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.
In said drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of-a portion of a case or cabinet embodying 'my invention; one of the box-like containers being shown partly drawn out of its compartment to more clearly illustrate the construction; Fig. 2 is a detail sectional elevation taken through the front end'of o`ne of the individual containers; Fig. 3'.is a transverse section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective View of a device'used on the frontendv of one of the containers for particuconveniently holding a slip-card on whichtaining cards of buttons or other articles for sale. lThe case may be constructed of any suitable material and of any desired size and form; As shown, it is mounted on a base a which may project slightly -beyond the body of the case for greater stability in use, and is preferably oblong and provided lwith a' s'eries of compartments arranged one above another. in' which are s lidably fitted box-like containers or receptacles B.' These containers are all of the same construction,
so that a description of one will suffice for all.
The container is preferably* of box-like form with an open tgp and a card With butpearance and pleasing effect to the eye, and
to said end is secured a U-shaped device C,
which may be constructed of cardboard or metal 'with a strip o of cloth or paper secured thereto by paste or other adhesive substance, and having marginal portions or fiaps'c1 which overlap the sidesof the box for attachment thereto,l as shown more clearly in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The device C on the end 'of the container provides in effect marginal inwardly turned a. slip-card D, on which a number of-buttons of the desired size are displayed; said'slipcard, havingl its marginal portions confined between said flanges and the body or end of the container toadapt it to be slid end wise vertically'to remove and restore it to place. For uniformity in appearance the entire outside of the case A as Well as the strips c may have a covering of paper or cloth'of the same general appearance or de- Aflanges which are adapted to hold and guide, l
sign as the covering on the front ends of the containers.
While the cabinet A and the individual containers are composed of cardboard and paper, 'it will be understood, of course, that any suitable material may be employed, such as'cloth or metal, and itmay be desirable in some cases to construct the U-shapeddevices C which form the marginal flanges of metal, with marginal attaching flanges riveted.. or otherwise secured tothe sides or end of the container, or provide metal structures inn stead' of cardboard having a covering of fabric or paper to form flaps for attachment to the end of the retainer, by glue or other adhesive substance, as shown, and hence I do not desire to be limited to the use of any particular material.V Y
It will also .be understood that although the cabinet with individual containers constructed as heretofore described and-shown is especially designed and adapted for holding and displaying buttons of diferent sizes,
Ait may'- obviously-be used for holding and' Havrlng thus describedmy invention, what 'I claim as new and4 desire to secure by Letters 'Patent is: ,A l 1.'An article container having at one end l thereof a strip conforming to' the outer dimensions ofthe container and lying flatwise thereupon, and a cover secured to said strip having marginal .flanges adapted to overlap and be attached to the sides of' the container, therebyA Aforming, between the container,

front end of the container and the strip, guides for the reception of display cards, substantially as described. f
2. Anarticle container having attached to one end thereof. a strip conforming to the outer dimensions of the container and lying flatwise thereupon, and a cover attached to said strip having inner inturned 'marginal portions covering the inner 'edge of said strip and outer marginalflanges adapted to overlap and slidably itted,'4 substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my ow-n, I aiiiX my signaturejn presence FRED o. V'ETTER. Witnesses:

be attached to the sides of the thereby 'forming between the front end ofthe container and the strip,
guides within which display cards may be.
