This lnvention relates to blading for elastic fluid turbines and particularly to means for securing together the' outer or free ends of the blades included in one row.
An object of this invention is to provide improved means for securing together the outer ends of the blades of a row and for providing an improved shroud or cover for the row of blades.
ith certain types of blades it'is desirable to'provide a cover for the outer or free ends of the blades of a row, so that an inclosed fluid passage is provided between each two blades. In addition to this, it is essential to provide means for securing the outer ends of the blades together so that the vibration creating shocks or strains, to which the blades are subjected are resisted by several blades of a row instead of a single blade.
In the drawings accompanying and forming a part of this application: Figure l is a side elevation of the rotor element of a turbine shown in connection with a row of blades embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a fragmental, longitudinal, sectional view of the rotor element shown in connectionwith rotating blades mounted on the element, and an intermediate stationary blade, located between the rotating blades; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a blade, which may be employed in carrying out the illustrated embodiment of my invention.
The rotor, or blade-mounting element 4: illustrated, is provided with lateral or overhanging flanges 5 in each of which a series of blade-receiving slots 6 is cut across its lateral face. A cover or spacing piece 11 is integrally formed at the outer or free end of each blade and, as illustrated, is rectangularin shape, being so located on the blade that it extends substantially at right angles to and overhan s the concave working face. F or the purpose of securing the separate blades together and of thereby resisting the vibration creating strains to which the blades are subjected. during the operation of the turbine. I have provided a strip of metal 12 which lies against the outer peripheral face of the organized shroud and which is adapted to be secured to each cover 11 by being spot-welded or autogenously soldered thereto. The strip 12- may be circular in form, so that all of the blades of a row are secured together, or it may be formed in arc shape sections so that groups of adjacent blades are secured together. it will, of course, be understood that my invention may be employed with any kind of a blademounting element and that it may also be employed with any type of turbine blades, and that, while I have described what 1 now consider to be a preferred form of my invention, various changes, modifications and substitutions may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as set forth by the appended claims.
