To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE lV si-IiNcToN l lvnnrr'r, a citizen of the United States, and resident of borough of Brooklyn, county of iiings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders, of which the following is a specification. I

The object of this invention is to provide a temporary binder which will consist of a tablet having a plurality of leaves secured together by means of rings. These rings as I have arranged them are well adapted to hold the tablet in a flexible condition so that the cover and leaves may lie flat when the tablet is open, in addition to this I have provided a board, rest or support upon which the tablet is temporarily secured by means that will be describedlater, and although it is my intention that the tablet will be re-.

moved from the board at will, it is not my intention that the rings shall be withdrawn from the sheets. It will be observed in connection therewith that although I have called my device a temporary binder, it is really a combination of a temporary support and a permanent binder.

The details of construction and the advan tags to be gained therefrom will be fully set forth as the specification progresses.

The following is what I consider the best means of carrying out this invention.

The accompanying drawings form a part of this specification, in which:

Figure 1 shows in plan a board fitted with tubes and rings for the reception of a tablet. Fig. 2 shows in end elevation two forms of tubular ring supporting members. Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 5 on the line 77. Fig. 4 is a fractional section of Fig. 5 on the line 8. Fig. 5 is a fractional view of a modification. Fig. 6 is a fractional view of a further modification.

Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in all the figures where they appear.

My device consists of a board or support ing member and a tablet or book temporarily secured together and in the construction of my device Iarrange a number of sheets of paper of a desirable quality and thickness into a tablet as shown at 7, and through perforations 8 in this tablet I pass split rings 10, the ends of these rings are unjoined and may overlap to a limited extent.

It will be observed that the connection between the tablet and the board is a temporary connection and that one tablet may be removed and another substituted without difliculty. lVhen completed my device produces a particularly handy and ellicient note book for stenographers.

The board is indicated at 31, and at 32 and -33.I show two tubular members which may be formed from sheet metal and in the general outline as shown in Fig. 6. The upper portion of these tubular members indicated at (1. projects above the surface of the board and the devices are clamped in position by having the post B extend through the board the ends of which are bent at right angles as indicated at C in such a manner as to forcibly engage the board between the tube A and thebent ends. (3. Split rings such as already described may be utilized with these tubular members and to. assist inholding the rings upright I may make the interior of the tubes V-shaped at the lower side as shown at D.

It will be noted that each of the constructions described are of such a nature that the tablet must be secured to the board at a point away from the ends thereof and although this feature may not be objectionable under most conditions I have found that it is oft times desirable that the tablet be secured at the end of the board so that the separate sheets thereof When folded backward may be caused to lie flat against the back of the board. To accomplish this I provide a plurality of clamps 3%, provided with eyes 35 formed integral therewith which may be secured to the board by having their ends inturned and depressed into the board as shown at 36. These clamps should be so secured that the eyes 35 will project beyond the end of the board and into these eyes I may engage the split rings of the tablet as shown at Fig. 5. When a portion of the tablet is folded over the back the ring and leaves will assume a position as shown in Fig. 8. I particularly desire to call attention to the fact that a single tablet may be used with any of the constructions here shown and that the tablets are in each instance interchangeable. The clamps 34: are arranged at the end opposite to that nearest adjacent to the tubes 32 and 33, for that reason when the tablet is in position and secured by means of the eyes 35, the tubes 32 and 33 will in no way interfere with the tablet or the operation thereof.

Modifications may be made within the scope of the appended claims Without departing from the principle or sacrificing the advantages of this invention.

In Fig. 5 I have shown eyelets 37 and 37 placed at one end of the board and adapted to operate as a substitute for the eyes 35. In Fig. 6 I have shown perforated clamps or plates 38 and 39 secured to the board and also adapted to operate as substitutes for the eyes 85.

Although I have not shown a cover for my tablet it is obvious that a cover of any nature may be used, and other modifications may be made.

Having carefully and fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent'isr 1. A temporary binder consisting of a board, a plurality of elongated tubular members secured to sald board and away I board, tubular members V-shaped at their lower side secured to said board and away from'the ends thereof, a plurality of split rings adapted to be engaged into said tubular members and to be held upright by the angled portion thereof as and forthe purpose set forth.

3. A temporary binder and a support thereof, comprising a plurality of split rings, the ends of which overlap, a series of perforated sheets engaged upon said rings, a board a plurality of tubular members engaged in said board and away from the ends thereof, and a plurality of perforated metallic members engaged through said board and at one end thereof said tubular members and said perforated members being adapted i0 receive said split rings for the purpose set orth.
