To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO W. NIEDOMANSKI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented an Improvement in Paper- F astenings, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to paper fasteners and my object is to provide a simple and efiicient fastener whereby to secure a plurality of sheets by bending extreme corners thereof together, thus obviating the perforation, puncture or mutilation of the papers in any respect. The means by which accomplish this preferably consists of a generally triangular body formed of a suitable material and constituting a finished paper guide open to receive the corners of superposed sheets of paper, the apex of the triangular body being also open in order that the extreme corners of the sheets may project therethrough and the body being provided with an extension projecting from its open apex and adapted to be bent over the same, thus bending the extreme edges of the sheets together, this extension being formed of a material of suflicient strength to retain the same in bent position.
My invention is shown in several forms in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the practical application of my invention before the projection is bent over to the clamped position. Fig. 2 is a similar view after the projection has been bent. Fig. 3 is a section taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an elevation looking at the rear side of the fastener, and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the body of the fastener is formed.
Referring now to these figures, I provide a fastener consisting of a generally triangular body A formed of stiff paper, cardboard or other suitable material of this character and from a blank cut as shown in Fig. 5, the intermediate portion a of which forms the front of the body and the side wings a and a of which are superposed on one another when bent with respect to the front portions a along lines a in order to form the rear body portion. The result is the formation of a body constituting a finished paper guide in generally triangular form, between the front and rear portions of which the corners of superposed paper sheets 13 may be readily guided and adjusted, and through the apex of which body the extreme corners b of the paper sheets project as best shown in Fig. 1.
The fastener body has a projection G extending from its apex and adapted to be bent over thereon in order to carry with it the extreme projecting corners b of the several sheets B, this projection 0 being formed of a suitable material such as will retain the same in shape when bent over onto the body of the fastener in the position shown in Fig. 2. To this end, where the body A is formed of stiff paper or cardboard as above indicated, the projection C is a supplemental or separate piece and is formed of thin, flexible metal, the inner portion of which is secured between the wings a and a of the blank when the body A of the fastener is formed. These wings are preferably secured by means of a suitable adhesive applied to their inner contacting faces and which also serves to retain the inner portion of the projection C in place.
In this manner I am enabled to provide a simple and inexpensive fastener which will effectively hold a plurality of paper sheets without the necessity of perforating, punching or otherwise mutilating such sheets; which will readily receive the corners of the papers to be fastened and guide the same into the desired position, and will, by the single operation of bending the projection C, firmly connect the papers together.
I claim:
A paper fastener of the character described consisting of a generally triangular body portion having front and rear sides between which to receive the corner portions of sheets to be secured together and having its apex open to permit the extreme corners of such sheets to project through and beyond the body, and a projection secured to the body to extend beyond its apex and adapted to be bent over thereon with the grojecting corners of the sheets, the said between the said over-lapped Wings, subgdy being folrmed from ztfblank coinsijsiting stantially as described.
