invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boats, of which the following is the specification.

My invention relates to improvements in boats and the object of the invention is to devise means whereby the deck of the boat may be readily converted into an arena for show purposes with tiers of seats to each side so arranged that the normal width of the boat will not be increased and it consists essentially of seat sections the top of which are provided with seats arranged in gradually ascending tiers, means for moving the seat sections outwardly over the side of the boat from a position centrally of the deck, and means for supporting the seat sections when moved into a position over the side of the boat as hereinafter more particularly eX- plained by the following specification.

Figure 1, is a sectional view through the boat showing my sections in their outer position. Fig. 2, is a similar view to Fig. 1 showing the seat sections in their inner position. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of one of the seat sections and supports therefor. Fig. 4, is an end View showing the means of operating the sections. Fig. 5, is an enlarged perspective detail showing seat section supports.

In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

A is the hull of a boat provided with the usual deck B. Beneath the deck 13 is located a main driving shaft 0 driven from any suitable source of power and journaled in suitable bearings. C is a driving pinion mounted thereon.

C is a .gear mounted in an arbor C journaled in bearings C D are guides secured to the deck B of the boat and preferably of dovetail form.

E are the seat sections provided with gradually ascending tiers of seats E.

E are guide-ways designed to fit over the Specification of Letters Patent.

guides D and F are ball bearings resting upon the guides D so as to minimize the friction.

H is a rack located beneath the seat sections and with which the gear C meshes.

I are swinging brackets secured to the side of the boat and onto which the seat sections are carried.

' When I desire to use my device all that is necessary to do is to swing the arms or brackets I into a position at rightangles with the side of the boat by means of a suitable cable or otherwise. The shaft C is then driven so as to carry the seat sections onto the supporting brackets thereby leaving the center of the deck free for use as an arena.

[By this construction it will be seen that I provide a large seating capacity by my movable seat sections which may be carried to the center of the boat when not in use so that the boat does not appear other than an ordinary boat and of no greater width and having as much promenade space as the ordinary deck. The deck cabins of course may be located beneath the seat sections in the same manner as an ordinary cabin is located.

What -I claim as my invention is.

1. In a boat, sections having tiers of seats arranged'on top thereof, means for slidably supporting the seats on the boat deck, means for supporting the sections over the side of the boat,-and means for sliding the sections FREDERICK siimiii. MILLIOAN.
